I still don't see the point of this device when I can get pretty much the same effect with a simple component video cable, component-to-VGA adapter, and setting my Wii to 480p. I spent all of $15 or $20 on that, and get very nice video from it. Why would I ever want to pay 4 to 5 times that just to get something only marginally better at best?

So, what exactly does that do? Is it upscaling, too? Does that really improve the picture quality by any significant amount? As in noticeably better than 480p component-only? 'Cos if so, I might consider buying one of those component-to-VGA adapters myself.

The best picture I can get out of my Wii is when it's hooked up to my HD CRT (no scaling).  I originally had it hooked up through component and then changed to VGA with a converter (cheap) simply because I wanted to connect other things through the component. Much to my surprise it looked even better than the component, it's just a little sharper, a little cleaner and has more natural colours.

It doesn't really make sense to me because the source is still component, so whether it's due to my specific TV handling VGA-in better than component-in or whether you will always get superior PQ through VGA I'm not sure.

I see. Hmm. Well, I might give it a try, my Wii games already look fine through component, but who knows, it may improve even more. Thanks for the info!

Upon viewing the image samples they provided on their website there doesnt seem to be a dramatic difference. If there were some video that the company could provide maybe it would be different.

Yeeeeey .... i dont even have a HD TV but its good for those who has one ...

what? why? it's going to end up looking worse.

You cant make 480p resolution output look good in 1080p, it just isnt possible without another video card. even then, the naive textures are more than likely in 480p or less on the disc anyway.

Wii looks best on a SD tv, this isn't going to make any improvement at all. if anything, things will look notably worse.

I really dont  care about HD at all , but i often see a lot of people asking for it , also on gonintendo , they keep posting picture of some games in 1080p , and looks quite good some times , but nothing that i can say WOW i can see the difference here ...I ok with my component cable ...

Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!

As for the component-to-VGA setup, I use that because my monitor doesn't have any component-in feeds (nor HDMI for that matter, though other makes fo this monitor do). The image quality is as good as any VGA feed, ie. not quite as good as DVI, but still worlds ahead of the best analog video standards like S-Video. It renders just fine without any significant upscaling issues on my 1920x1200 36" monitor.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

did anyone ever end up trying this? i need to hook up my wii to my HDMI monitor and was thinking about getting it.

I figured this would be a Dolphin/emulation thread. :/

I am thinking about getting a Wii soon and I have an hdtv. How will the Wii games look on my 1080p tv using component video cables? Does the hdtv make wii games show more jaggies than it would on a sdtv?

It can, depends a lot on the game and it's visual design (in my own experience Mario Galaxy = gorgeous, Twilight Princess = jaggfest).  Jaggies are far, far worse on LCDs though (which I have), it's basically a non-issue on plasmas from what I've seen.

problem is when u try to yous one of these things for games that dont want to yous hd (arnt made for) sometimes u end up with rather....weird looking results

I think Wii games generally look cleaner than GC games but the jaggies do tend to be more obvious in games with more texture detail and more objects (more edges) but it really depends on the scaling properties of your particular TV.

I regularly play on my brother's 37 inch Hitachi and it looks OK, not terrible, but on my friends 46 inch Bravia the appearance of jaggies is relatively less.  Also, LCD's by default have a high level of sharpness so turning down the sharpness a little might help.  Bottom line, with the right setup Wii games can still look surprisingly good.
