Forums - Sony Discussion - They said 60 hours, I beat it in 35-the biggest problem of Final Fantasy 13

The game is just not that good. That's the point here. Probably THE most disappointing game this generation. I played it a lot with my Final Fantasy-nut of a friend and we're both heavily disappointed with the lack of exploring, areas and the super linearity, etc... It promised a lot and did not deliver at all. I hope Nomura will do better with Versus XIII. Looks like a more interesting game.

oh well thats not good. at least for me. a game that is too linear is not fun at all!!!!. but its final fantasy so it must still be freaking epic!!! FFFTW!!!!.

well apparently with the last info of FFversus13 in that interview that appeared it said that there was going to be a world map and stuff and a airship too!!!. so that means theres a chance that it get less linear than FF13 right????.

bugrimmar, I agree with everything you said. Your point was well stated and your comparation to other final fanatsy games reminded me how great they was. But still, I think its one of the greatest RPGs this gen. I was pleasantly surprice of the combat system and also of what they were able to do without town. I would have liked them tho. I wasnt sure if you also think it is a great game or not. I know its not like Final fantasy 7, but did you still enjoy it?

On another note, I think final versus 13 will bring back the epic of past jRPGs. Will probably sell less but will be awesome for hardcore japanese RPG gamer like us.

^ i enjoyed it until it ended. then there's nothing else to do.

But overall, is there another jRPGs you prefered this gen? For me tales of vesperia is very close but FF 13 is a bit better. Valkyria chronicle if counted as a jRPG would also be very close.

^ no, this was probably the last hope i had for jrpgs. western rpgs have officially taken the mantle for me. fallout 3 is by far, the best rpg i've played.

I'm 40 Hrs and just arrived at Chap 12 so...

I agree that the wRPGs have been great this gen. Fallout 3 was awesome! Normally I prefer jRPGs but Fallout 3 nearly beat them all.

But chapter 12 is near the end if you dont do sidequest. You could finish it in about 5 hours.

Eh, I was expecting FF13 to go on longer. 35 hours later, I'm done. I realize that the other 25 hours or so is spent on sidequests and whatnot, but without any aside from killing monsters (no card game, gold saucer, blitzball *ugh*, etc.), I don't think I can spend all that time just fighting over and over. I mean the battle system is cool, but I don't think it can tide me over for another two dozen hours.

I truly was expecting the story to last 60 hours. Secrets/collectibles seem rather irrelevant in the game because the items are simply random names, there are no towns and no world map to explore, and filling up the crystarium/upgrading weapons don't seem to have any point behind it because there just isn't anything else to do beyond fighting.

I dunno.. I was having a great time with the game up until beating it. Now I realize that beyond the story line, there's just not much to do. I'm used to Final Fantasies having a heck of a lot of variety in sidequests with a bunch of different things to collect. In Final Fantasy 7, I spent 80 hours in the game even though I can beat the thing in under 30 hours, because there are chocobos to breed, awesome materia to collect, gold saucer activities, secret areas, etc. All the other Final Fantasies I played had something different to do at end game. It's disappointing that there's pretty much nothing to do now in FF13 except fight.

edit: another thing about the cieth stone missions. I just felt no reason to do them because it's just a random stone telling me to kill some random monster to get some random treasure. It doesn't feel epic at all, unlike fighting something like omega weapon.

Also, the weapons all seem so insignificant coz you just get them out of random chests in random areas, and they just have random properties and random upgrades from random components.. none of them feel epic, like say, getting squall's ultimate lionheart weapon.

So I just don't feel like collecting anything in the game. Everything about the sidequests, aside from being repetitive (the fighting only thing), they also feel really really random. "Fight random monster and get random treasure for random stone dude".

This ENTIRE post makes me boil in complete anger!

If ANY of this stuff bothers you, you shouldn't even touch an RPG!
