It's not a given both screens are 3D. The top screen may be 3D, the bottom screen may be a regular LCD (for touch input).

In teh context of the words, a replacement takes up the end of something else. A successor doesn't necessarily mean that, it's just the one that comes next.

And I know you think you are being SMRT, but the DSi is capable of playing games that the DS can't play (not possible on previous system). However, it is not a successor. It is just one in the family. PERIOD.

3 Dual Screens => 3 x 2 = 6

This has seven screens because it is obviously a prototype.

AH, so it could be a "dual-screen with one 3d screen and a second screen for touch input!"

I just wanna make sure Nintendo doesn't let me down. I want E3, and Nintendo to say "Here is the DS2, code-name LADYLOO"

Iwata says pretty cleary in the press release that 3DS is the SUCCESSOR (in fact he uses that exact word) to the current DS line.

I browse like 5 or 6 major forums and this is the only thread where there's a hang up about the name, lol.

yes but is it mean "another in the DS line" or "seperate to the DS line"?

In fact, by definition, that means "next DS"

Oh, I also heard that the DS2 (DS2 news) has two screens which will sync up evenly without a gap.. that would have to mean that both are 3d, right?

In fact, by definition, that means "next DS"

It means a new DS. 

As in SUCCESSOR. 

Nintendo has never labelled the DSi or DSi XL as the successor to the DS. 

It is what the PS2 was the PS1 or what the GBA was to the GB/GBC. 

And it's about time. It's almost 6 years ... what did you think? That Nintendo was going to just rest on their laurels for another 2 or 3 years?

Expect PSP2 this year as well.
