Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Responds To Nintendo 3DS Announcement

There was me thinking that the audience of the DS was 70 year olds playing Brain Training. Thanks for showing me the light Sony, now I know that none of those people exist!

better for sony to be the only 3d console than to try and compete with the DS by using the same idea

Didn't Sony get the note that Nintendo products aren't only bought by 8 and 9 year olds?

sigh, how many times do we have to go over this? Despite what many of you claim, The DS is targeted towards a "kiddie" audience and the Wii is as well. The people who buy games like Final Fantasy, MGS, Uncharted and Halo are in the severe minority when it comes to Nintendo consoles, which is the audience Sony and Microsoft are pushing for.

Stop with the BS.

Hmm...That's pretty interesting.

So yep, make that VERY ignorant on Koller's part.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

While yes your graph shows mass demographic no matter what age, you have to figure how long the DS has been out, people aging, and main focus of DS games.

Normal game products are either A. kids oriented or B. brain training which is popular with the older generations.

Ues there is still the middle ground with games like GTA Chinatown Wars and COD, but sill no one can ignore the majority of the content that exists.

There are many holes in the data presented here.

I have no clue what you are talking about.  Figure out how long the DS has been out?  This graph is less than 2 years old.  I'm sure Nintendo has updated it since then, too.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
Switch - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
Switch - Bastion (2011/2018)
3DS - Star Fox 64 3D (2011)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Wii U - Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (2010/2017)
Mobile - The Simpson's Tapped Out and Yugioh Duel Links
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

Brain Age for the DS has probably done more to bring in an older demographic than any other video game.

Puzzle type games appeal to an adult audience and 3d could really open up a lot of new puzzle game mechanics.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Pushing for an age range from 5 years old to 90 is not the same as being kiddy.

exactly, PR people are so immature

all the Sony boys in here who are saying that this is somehow a great response seem to be blind to what the guy is saying, since when is Brain Age only for "8 and 9 year olds"? (18+ million sold on DS)

@theRepublic: nice find!

Seems to me the graph backs up Koller. Ages 7 - 17 have the most users than any other 10 year bracket for males. And under 18 years old is a kid... even though koller didnt say that in the first place. Just another out of context quote by the overly defensive nintendo fans

I'm sorry, what? Are you actually trying to pigeonhole the DS's library into either "kiddy stuff" or "brain training"?

God, man, I'm trying to wrap my head around this. How experienced are you with the system's library? More, how does the portion of the library that largely doesn't get publicized compare to the same for the PSP, or for any of the consoles?

The graph says a lot more than your suppositions do: ownership demographics are concrete and absolute.

So how long until the PSP3D shows up?

hopefully never, i really dont see how 3D will offer any benefit to handheld gaming.

Its currently of more benefit than the <2% of TVs which can support 3D in the marketplace.

not really due to limited content that will be available. Just 3D games, which calling them 3D games sounds stupid since most are 3D already so 3D-3D games?, isnt a valuable content stream.

You wont see Warner Bros making Harry Potter 3D Movies 1 - 6 for the 3DS, and very few movies online will support it if ever.

On the PS3, and TV broadcasting, have a full new avenue of content with 3D. 3D Movies and games, meaning two revenue streams of content.

Too bad Nintendo makes more profit atm then Sony as a whole. I really don't get your point about revenues. The last thing you have to worry about is the profit Nintendo is making.

Virtual Boy!! I wanna see THAT re-released!
