Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Responds To Nintendo 3DS Announcement

Well thank you for that, I was just making a point that it's stupid to say something like the number of GOTY awards determines who is better than others. Sure it can come into the equation but it's not the way to do it.

As a PS3 owner, currently enjoying my PS3 more than any other system, I think I'm in a fairly unbiased position on this topic.. I'm still a Nintendo fan at heart though so I'll defend them when I think it's necessary. Therefore I can understand you being a Sony, naturally you want to defend Sony when they're being bashed.

I only have a problem with one person in this, and other threads, spreading mis-information about the 3D tech that will be used and being quite vocal about how this is Nintendo copying Sony somehow.

That person isn't you btw :P

So how long until the PSP3D shows up?

Right after they find a video of an old tech demo they can put in Youtube, in order to prove that Sony thought of it first.

Don't worry, they already got that covered

Wrong, that has nothing to do with the PSP or any handheld for that matter (plus it requires glasses).

Didn't Sony get the note that Nintendo products aren't only bought by 8 and 9 year olds?

sigh, how many times do we have to go over this? Despite what many of you claim, The DS is targeted towards a "kiddie" audience and the Wii is as well. The people who buy games like Final Fantasy, MGS, Uncharted and Halo are in the severe minority when it comes to Nintendo consoles, which is the audience Sony and Microsoft are pushing for.

Stop with the BS.

i refuse to believe that graph, i have NEVER seen a 34 year old man or woman with a NDS.......whehter anyone likes it or not...nintendo wants to hit a demographic that has do with kids, theres nothing wrong with it, but its just what they are MAINlY trying to do

This graph is in reference to Japan. Unless I'm mistaken, note the (Tokyo, Osaka).

either way, it doesnt cover the DS population...its result has nearly no meaning to what the one who is posted it is trying to show

The basic idea he's trying to give is the appeal the Nintendo DS has to adults.

what i am saying is that this graph does not show it considering the sample number...now if it was 20% or hell even 10%, i would agree to some sense, but the sample is less than one percent....yeah, could have asked anyone in that "interview survey"

So you are showing us all that you have no fucking clue about statistics and sample sizes and they ay that sample sizes of 3000 can be used to reflect the entire DS owner population.

So thank you for showing your ignorance and that you talk out of your ass and that you have no right to post on a site that does statistical analysis for poting their own numbers.

You are clueless and sad, and your posts just proved that in a very harsh and very insulting (to you) way.

3D as sustaining innovation (Sony cycle) = blow a bubble, put it in every piece of hardware possible, huge marketing push, sell to enthusiast, move downmarket, make it standard, then grab the royalties. Low-end market totally not interested, what's mine benefit? Prettier picture? Nah. Might get it when it's cheap.

New values of 3D tech in gaming (Nintendo? Hopefully, if not... I pass) = built it into gameplay, make it fun, differentiate yourself, sell millions games on that.

UPD: Regarding DS userbase in US, just read what Iwata has to say about it: "This graph shows Nintendo DS' consumer composition based upon our most recent survey in the U.S. Compared with Japan, the adult portion is not yet fully expanded, and we see further growth opportunity there. As I said, the DS ownership ratio to the population in the U.S. is just about half that in Japan, so there still must be the room for the expansion" - it's basically Japan userbase graph couple of years ago, the higher penetration - the more non-gamers, i.e. adults will join DS audience. In fact, DS userabse in US already is quite spectacular >50% are >18yo, and without doubts great majority is older than 8-9yo.

Poor Sony, they must be so proud of themselves being the only adults in a kindergarden ;)

Sony, redo your research cos it's gonna have a huge acceptance with the casual. Better start before it's late.

why do people deny that the wii and ds are aimed at the younger demographic?

it is absurd to even argue this point... sure there are those in their late 20's and early 30's that may play it... but most will only do so to spend time with their own kids.

going by my experience, the majority of those in the age group of 16-25 will not use the wii/ds as their primary gaming provider.

the gaming library of the ds/wii is proof that it is made for the younger audience... for every No more heores, there are 20 brain age and animal crossing type games.

Brain Age and Animal Crossing are the examples you use as games for the younger audience. Really?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

300+ post because SONY said that according to their research, its hard to say if 8-9 year olds would like 3D gaming.

You're hillarious. You're seriously bashing shit that isnt there. Get over it. Move on.

I think a lot of people are forgeting about what might happen with Sony marketing 3d as the second coming and the Nintendo shows the 3DS to the public as a 3D hand held with no need for glasses of a new TV, effectively Sony would of indirectly marketed it for them.

The difference is the PS3 would look like the better it can do everything machine.. why get a DS when the PS3 does everything and does it much better?

That's there goal.. why do you think PS MOVE is coming out, why get a wii when the ps3 has it and does it better? 3D gaming was originally just going to be the PS3 that pushes it, but nintendo appears to want to push 3d gaming as well.

Only with the 3DS you won't need to buy a 2K tv particularly when people have only just upgraded to HD as for PS move don't count your chickens yet I haven't seen it do anything that will deter people from the Wii in fact it's funny you think it'll be better because all I've seen from Move are games that the Wii was doing 4 years ago.
