Forums - Gaming Discussion - how are 3-d screens for handhelds even possible?

For a screen to be 3-D now, you have to have a really thick screen and you have to be within a 5 degree angle from the front of the screen. I personally don't think the news on the front page is legit...but everyone has their own opinion. (this is according to pachter in the bonus round).

Also, it costs more money to make 3-D games than HD games...if that is truly nintendos next handheld, its going to fail hard imo.

(Can't find the link, but some dude posted it on here)

Do you guys seriously believe this is true? Idk what to think...

3D mobile devices already exist in Japan.

This news came straight from Nintendo.

How could you possibly think this is not true?

It is still towards the top when you made this post...

At first I thought it was just fake 3D using tracking to move an in game camera, like in the tech video demo thats going around.

But apparently its using some kind of double screen that makes each eye see a different image. This tech already exists and im looking forward to E3 when we will learn more of it.

It will probably be multiple layers of screens that each shift the image over a bit and give the effect of 3-D. Plus maybe a camera that can track your head movements and adjust the movement of the image to make it look like you are looking around in a 3-D world in the screen.

maybe something like this

I'd really like to see that link, because that assertion makes no sense to me.

3D is pure hardware processing power. Instead of rendering a 3D environment once and presenting it as a 2D image, you render it twice and send one 2D image to the left eye and a slightly different one to the right eye. The fidelity of the image stays the same, so there's no need to hire more artists or level designers.
