I know what your thinking "Ohh what a stupid question to ask on a gaming website", but hear me out. I stumbled upon a thread a couple of weeks back, were the poster said after going to a Mid-night game launch he realised that he was a "Closet gamer", this really got me thinking about how some people are ashamed of the "sterotypes" that are often thrust upon gamers. Admit it we've all at one time or another been insulted for being a "gamer"; whether its been being called a "Nerd" or having someone shout "Get a life" at you, us gamers have had or fair share of insults tossed our way.

Recently I was talking to a girl I know on IM and she asked me what I was doing I told her I was on Ebay looking at this really cool "God Of War" hoodie; of course she saw that as "un-normal" & insulted me by calling be "SAD". Yes she did it in CAPS!!!

So I've decided to make a thread and see how you felt about all this. Are you a proud gamer? or Are you a "Closet" gamer?

How do you all feel about the "sterotypes" that gamers get?

Me I'm a Proud gamer, people can say what they want there is no way in hell I'm going to stop being a gamer. I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember, I will speak fondly about games, I will stick up for gamers world-wide even though I know there is people who take gaming to seriously but hey they are en-titled to be as passionate about gaming as they want, hell some of the fondest memories I have had in my 17yrs on this planet have re-volved around games.

Whats your thoughts?

Cheers

Ohh & for the people who say "Games aren't art"...Fuck YOU!!!

Thank god not all of your fondest memories have been from gaming ;) otherwise I would worry.

Ohh no I definatley have alot of fond memories that don't consist of gaming! Lol

I am not ashamed to play at the same time there is nothing to talk about games since games are boring unless the other person has played them as well. It's just very poor conversation and boring as hell to the others.

That said I don't mind discussing games when I'm in a crowd that plays them, though that is not all too often. Others know I play games and stuff, I just don't bother talking about them since it's a shitty topic to talk about. I also have zero gaming merchandise since I think it's retarded, and that's when I have over 200 days spent on WoW.

To the "closet" gamers

you guys know that the more you hide it , the more it will make you look bad right? just be yourself, if you date someone being the "im a cool guy who doesn't play videa gaemz" and then shes finding out that you actually play video games what do you think she'll feel? she wont trust you anymore.

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

Nah, not really.
My friends are all into gaming in one way or another, and my girlfriend, while not interested in it, doesn't mind it either.

I'm not ashamed of it so to speak, but I won't advertise it either. If I meet new people, I won't just be like "I LOVE GAMES!", mostly because I'm too busy talking about music or other interests first.

So it's not that I try to hide it, or that I'm ashamed, but it's not one of the first things I bring up in conversation. Though that can change depending on the kind of person I'm meeting.

It was funny when I told my ex-gf, she HATED games so much. It never affected our relationship though, and these days, she plays some guitar hero and such.

I'm proud of being a gamer, gamers have the best hand eye cordination, and it's fun being a gamer, many people are.. It ain't better to stay on the internet or watch tv, games like god of war are great stress reliefs when i'm mad, also games are plain fun.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

  1. I don't understand how you can be at a midnight release and be a closet gamer
  2. Browsing eBay for a God of War hoodie is sad.

And I'm a proud gamer.  I am nearly all types of nerd and I don't mind that.

Nope not ashamed.

Some friends i can talk to about gaming, some don't understand.
It's like talking about cars, i really don't care about them and have no knowledge except on how to drive one.
I don't hide my dis-interest in cars and i don't hide my interest in gaming.
And yeah i get the occasional 'nerd'... I don't care. Just shows how shallow people are.

But i do understand that hearing a conversation about what happened in Azeroth last night and how kick-ass someones newly crafted legs are is just a tiny bit too much to handle for non-gamers... hell even for gamers...

Live and let live...

im a proud gamer, and all the people i know come to me if there thinking of buying a game, or need some info on a game which makes me feel good :) lol.

It's one of my main hobbies, why should I be ashamed of it? If people don't understand than they're the ones missing out by not enjoying the range of games out there. Admitedly it helps that among my friends, most engage in some sort of gaming.
