if this is true.. so much for Sony copying Nintendo.. xD

Does the PSP do 3D without glasses or something?

Oh and don't act like Sony came up with 3D... there were Samsung 3D monitors before Sony was even talking a lot about 3D.

As there was motion controls before Nintendo implemented it.. in for instance.. the eye toy.. about 200 pieces of machinery.. security and so on..

But what does that have to do with Sony copying Nintendo (which btw isn't limited to motion controls)?

Oh whatever... Not gonna discuss this anymore in this thread.

Nintendo NEVER implemented any of Sony's idea's into theyre systems.. thats for sure..?

*COUGH*

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Somebody posted a thread recently about 3D LCD screens in a handheld and suggesting Nintendo might put it in the next DS. It wasn't exactly 3D, but a layering of translucent LCD screens to produce several 2D layers. Combine that with integrated, accelerated head tracking as seen in the DSi and you could craft a mighty powerful 3D illusion that the DSi can't do, I reckon.

If true, that might be way cooler than regular 3D TV with glasses.

I did expect that this meant to be some kind of '3D', but not what you might think first. Otherwise pointless, when you have 3D TV in your living room.

kinda like how plugNplay companies had motion controllers for videogames before nintendo was talking about it.

Nameless companies no one heard about vs one of the biggest TV manufacturers... yeah fair comparison.

But anyway this is offtopic so maybe we should it leave it at that.

The comparison isn't about the companies, it's about the idea and technology. Why discredit an inventor that innovates in his/her garage with minimal resources, and praise a mega brand name corporation (that did it later) instead?

Going back to the main topic.... one thing has me really curious...

How is Nintendo really going to show off the 3d technology of the new DS on E3 when most the viewers are going to be watching the presentation on TV or internet. I won't be able to decide if I really want one, until I see it with my own eyes. Does anyone have the patent drawings on the 3ds? I need to know how it works. I'm guessing you have to look at the screen at a certain angle... unless it's holographic, which would blow my mind.

So let's talk about the idea and the technology... As I asked before, does Sony (or whoever else) have any portable with a 3D display?

I don't think so. In fact I don't even know how this is going to work because it came totally out of nowhere as far as I know.

No, I don't know if anyone has any portable 3d device, but that's beside the point. What we do know is that 3d technology has already been applied to gaming, and there are already plans to make display show 3d images without glasses.

But really, it doesn't even matter right now since, like you said, no one knows how this is going to work. We don't even know if nintendo is using the same technology as everyone else. Heck, for all we know, it could be virtual boy 2....

that approach is like "backwards" 3d, pretty neat. I wonder how noticeable the 2d layers will be to the human eye. I'm hoping it won't be like those crazy stickers that kinda stick out when you move to certain angles.

It sounds like you won't be able to see the depth of certain objects like you would when wearing those damn glasses.

The vast majority of people are not going to have a 3D TV anytime soon.

It actually makes perfect sense to introduce 3D on handhelds first, since it's cheaper and less complicated than getting a new TV, glasses etc...

I actually thought the natural order of technology progression was going from larger to smaller.

The 3d tech **might** look something like this:

Even in technology that's not always true, but I was talking about the marketing perspective rather than technology.

Let me put it another way... if Nintendo 3DS doesn't totally flop, it will be adopted much faster than 3D TVs due to lower price and convenience.
