Forums - Gaming Discussion - Natal needs 4 meters of space

My lounge would work, but most ppl I know have small rooms.

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

You'll need a spare room for Natal. j/k

But its a problem (space i mean) I had the same issue with the Wii, I am sure I'll have space issues with Move too

this was already posted...

if it NEEDS 4 m of space then its DOA in the UK, Japan and most of Europe.

It depends on the games I'm sure.

Racing games, everyone will be able to play (though you may have to remove objects in between the camera and you). Games where you jump or walk around are going to be much more of a problem in multiplayer mode.

Am I the only one that read this to state the furthest back Natal will detect a individual is 13 feet? I'm pretty sure it will detect and capture somebody closer than that, it is merely highlighting the limitation of the IR camera in terms of the window it can capture. There is no requirement to have a room that extends the full 13 feet back I'm pretty sure and when this is confirmed, some people might look a bit foolish jumping on the hate bandwagon right now.

To be precise, you’ll want to clear an area extending at least 4 meters (a little more than 13 feet) away from the television.

That’s the back edge of the space to be taken into account by the Natal sensors.

It seems to be suggesting that while you can certainly stand closer, 4 meters should be it's clearance zone. So having furniture or friends within 4 meters could throw Natal off. That would certainly be a pretty big limitation even in American households where you have friends sitting on the couch. It would certainly deny the Natal entry in to dorm rooms. And the 360 is a pretty big staple of most dormrooms.

It uses IR for its depth sensing, I'm 100% sure the device can filter stationary objects such as furniture and walls behind a player.  As for furniture around the player, well you're an idiot for playing in an area with such obvious health hazards imo.

I must ask but why do I get picked out for actually reading the article where as everyone else in the thread who skimmed the title and came in to troll Natal just breezes along?  No need to reply anyway as I'll not be posting on this forum for a while now as I'm sick of the continual crap in the Microsoft forum.

Because you made a very reasonable post stating that judging by the article,  you thought the statement might mean it works up to four meters, so I responded with a very reasonable post stating that judging by the article, I think the statement might mean it requires 4 meters of clear space for the debvice to properly judge your distance.

I really don't see how making reasonable responces to reasonable posts is such a problem for you, but calling me an idiot for suggesting people might have furniture or friends within 4 meters of a television seems perfectly cool. Peerhaps taking a break from this forum might be a really good idea for you.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

This officialy means that, even if Natal comes at a low price, you will need to buy the little add-on peripheral which is a NEW HOUSE.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

wahahahahahahha thats a good one

Depends on how the game is designed.

Of course if it's a game of Flail Ball where you need full body capture and have to wave both hands and feet to deflect balls, you might need the space.

If a game focuses on the torso and head for control/input, it's not an issue.

My guess would be if you have enough space to play DDR, you should have about enough space for Natal.

Although I'm not sure why they just didn't add a wide (or wider) angle lens setting on their camera.

Hopefully they will put a reasonable price for that add-on.(LOL)
