Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft made a motion controller in 1998 and they predicted Natal

GUYS! It's 2010! 1998 was 12 years ago! Why should it matter who invented what first? Why? Tell me why. So you can glorify your system of choice by saying the company who made it is innovative and original. That's why.

Please list 10 ways Sony has copied MS.

Please list 10 ways Microsoft has copied Sony.

1.  L3 R3 buttons

2.  Controller layout

3.  Front loading disc tray

4.  outsold Gamecube (zing!)

5.  business strategy (I can explain)

6.  DVD player

7.  vertical standing console

8.  video game camera (Live Vision)

9.  software installs

10.  Hardware failure (from PS1 & PS2)

Once again, I'm just kidding around.  Everybody stole everything from Nintendo.

They obviously didn't do anything with it so it hardly matters.

Since MS didn't bother to integrate it into the standard Xbox control scheme or the Xbox 360 scheme, they clearly didn't see the relevance of motion controllers.

Technically, they still don't acknowledge the relevance of motion based controllers since they are offering controller free camera based controls derived from the Eye Toy instead.

This just goes to show that a controller is only as useful as the software designed to use it. No software; may as well not exist.

I remember reading or watching something by an executive at Microsoft saying they did it years ago, but the customers really weren't interested in it, so they didn't see much of a future in it.

As far as Natal goes, Sega's "Activator" comes to mind when I see it.

If we want to get technical, Nintendo stole the idea of motion from both Sony & Microsoft (apparently).

* I know you're just kidding, I'm trying to make up for what happened yesterday *

LOl!  The sad part is that you are probably right......

Didn't the tilt force 2 by Pelican Accessories come before it?

Edit: I can't find any release dates for this tech...

yes it sure did. 1992

Logitech make great controller's by the way.

I see.

Well then, matt247, your point is moot.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Since we are on the who coppied who

Well Sega had motion controllers in 1999 with samba de amigo.

Also Sega was the first to have online network, online play, console browser, console 480p output, DLC (game saves and pics), Steroscopic 3D games...

ALSO Nintendo and Sega introduced an Analog stick on controller days appart... Nintendo with its June 23 launch of N64 in Japan and Sega with its July 5 launch of Nights into the dreams controller. So both should get credit for that...

Sega FTW!

Sega Rule

MS... its been over 10 yrs.. and you still CANT design D-pads...
