"The PS3 is like the theatre, it's a little bit high-priced but it has to be high quality as well. The 360 is a DVD, it still needs to be high quality but you need more variations, while the Wii is almost like a TV channel, because every game you have it with your family" "But like I said, MGS4 is aimed for the movie theatre, it's aimed for the PS3, so the game's scenario and graphics need this theatre-type hardware. It's when a producer has a game that can work on the 'DVD level' that a game will go multiplatform" http://kotaku.com/gaming/go307/feature-talkin-metal-gear-with-hideo-kojima-248695.php The game would be on 50GB Blu-ray disc so I think the chances that this game will port is very small. But still there is a chance discuss!

Without actually seeing what they're using the disc space for it becomes impossible to determine whether a port would be possible. Personally, I doubt that it is 50GB for ingame assets and is probably full of 1080p FMV and a large portion of the rest of the space is probably used for loading time optimization; if I'm correct you could probably load the game onto 2 DVDs simply by reducing the resolution of the FMV.

I find it humorous that most people say that the space taken up "must" be FMV. That could have been the case but I do not remember playing a MGS that had FMV's in them...... ever. And I highly doubt he is using a 50 gig disc. More like 25 gigs and chances are padding would amount to a very small fraction of that.

I could be wrong, but I believe the first Metal Gear Solid used FMV cutscenes ... Anyways, I was just mentioning the two things which can (easily) turn a 2GB game into a 20GB game with very little effort. On the padding note, I suspect that every game is padded to maximum disc size prior to being digitally signed as a piracy prevention method; running unsigned content is very difficult on modern systems and few people have the bandwith to download a 25GB/50GB signed image.

Pity. So, Devil May Cry 4, going multiplatform. Thoughts? Comments? "I think it's up to each project, and the individual producer", he says. "If they want to take it multiplatform, they will". I'm going somewhere with this question, and he knows exactly where that is...

Since we've opened up this can of worms, I may as well get his thoughts on it. Why, I ask, do you think this rumour simply refuses to go away? "Because 360 owners want it on 360, obviously", he quips.

There is alot of dialogues in MGS4 games I hope that he will add Japanese/English voice in the same disc. So I can choose english subtitles and Japanese voice. Games will always get bigger get used to it. DVD9 will not last the whole generation publishers will need to make several sacrifices to make it to fit on Wii/360. God of War 2 used almost the whole DVD9 and the devs said that could not fit everything in 1 disc. The Wii will probably be ok with DVD9 but not 360. Blue Dragon used 3 DVD9 discs and that was 1 year in 360s life. I am not saying it is needed now but in 2-3years I am expecting the majority of PS3 games will use 50GB discs and 360 will struggle with several discs. But I am probably talking out of my ass.

Go Kojima go..... this is why i got a kickass tv and sound system.... War Snake!!

wow, blue dragon is 3 discs already? so they could easily end up having to use 6 discs. sounds fun...

It is not going to happen 6 discs is to much. The developers will learn how to use the space more efficient. But they cant really have everything they want.

To put more insite and give credence to happy's point let me list for you guys this: Resistance: fall of man: Padding file size = 32MB. Total padding = 1.9GB. Total FMV = 7GB. Audio = 2.24GB. (605MB for music and English language only) Game Assets = 6.12GB. So.... does this mean that MGS4 game assets will not take up more than 9 gigs? I wouldn't be so sure of that. There are a quite a few things insomniac left on the cutting room floor and it was said that they had to reduce space for burning during the testing phase. Resistance is 720p and devoid of streaming textures. Despite all their supposed space procedural generated textures and objects and instanced meshes and textures are laid everywhere around the game. I would sayy I played the game and passed it over with a whopping stick...... I couldn't even lie to myself I played the game in front of my friend who plays FPS's as much as I do and even he said we was ready to jump out of a window due to how unfun the game looked. I think this launch title doesn't really show what devs can due with the space and seems more of an attempt to keep the disk space high to avoid making multiple versions of the game. EDIT: these numbers are a guesstimate done by a member on beyond3d. Ted Price from Insomniac Game has claimed that each stage after compression takes about 300 megs not including the 40 multiplayer stages. There are 30 missions in the single player game. That should put it around 9 gigs for single player missions alone.
