I just purchased a 360 today and noticed that the power supply makes this loud fan noise. It sounds like a 360, yet my 360 is VERY quiet. The noise I hear comes from the power supply. I tried looking for answers on google but ended up with nothing.

So I'm asking if the newer power supplies are loud? Because I had an older 360 and I don't remember them being noticable. Also, it's in a very small room and well ventilated, so I'm not sure if that'd make it louder.

EDIT: I kept it unplugged for about half an hour and restarted the console. The power supply seems to be quiet then it gradually starts to get louder and louder. From dead silent to noticable to very loud.

EDIT 2: I exchanged the 360 for another identical one, and this one is slightly different inside the box. It has a free month of Xbox Live instead. The other didn't.

I don't know, but try installing your games to make the 360 less quiet.

The 360 itself is quiet. The noise i'm hearing is directly coming from the power supply.

that isn't normal. I got a new 360 recently and the power supply is pretty quiet. Yours might be defective.

I'm thinking I should return it, but maybe Best Buy will just let me return the power supply?

Thats definitely a hazard.....the power brick has no means to create that much noise unless there is defective wireing in it.

Yes I mean the power brick. I have it away from the 360 and ventilated. When I start up the system it eventually gets 2-3x louder than the console itself, but the consoles quiet so I'm not sure why its louder.

I'll test it one more time before I go and return it for another.

Erm, it should be the opposite? The brick makes no noise and your Xbox should.
