I doubt Microsoft will cave in to Sony on the whole Blu-ray issue.

Also, I don't think Sony will allow Microsoft to use blu-ray, and if they did, I'd expect sony would get a cut.

blu-ray will be superceded by the time the next gen comes around anyway.

Yes it looks like Blu-Ray is the most likely choice.

I am going to say No, nada, and still No to Blu-Ray, Microsoft will still use DVD!

the reason being I would say 70%  or even higher of the fan's that own the xbox360 do not care for or see the need for Blu-Ray. Why because DVD is still enough for the majority of 1st party Xbox360 game's being developed.

I just do not think that Microsoft see's Blu-Ray as a Need. The only reason Why Microsoft supported HD DVD in the first place over Blu-Ray was because of IHD, and to slow down the adoption of Blu-Ray.

by the Time of the Next Xbox what ever that will be stand alone Blu-Ray PC optical drive's will still be in the $30.00+ range so it would still be cheaper to go with DVD if Microsoft even decide's to go with an internal Drive at all.

If anything DVD 9 size for the majority of xbox720 or what ever will still be the main target for for Data size. for xbox developed game's for their data size.

because they don't need Blu-Ray because of compression techniques, and procedural synthesis and less FMV in their game's which many xbox360 game's FMV is less of a priority. In my opinion that's just the way I see it due to Microsoft's stance on Blu-Ray.

Probably not. They will go for a proprietary format due to lower piracy/royalties. It may be based on Blu Ray discs, but it won't be an exact replica either.

Tease.

if holographic versatile disc (hvd) comes along enough in development they might use that

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

truthfly Microsoft's want's no physical Disc at all. I think Microsoft will still stick with DVD9's

because of compression and being able to use solid state drive's to store the majority of the game's data since you would just need the game disc to be in the drive to run the Game already the xbox360's game's can be loaded to your Harddrive , and with many of the Developer's that develop game's for the xbox360, the Majority of xbox360 game developer's have not complained about the size of DVD9, there have Been some no doubt but the number has been small.

I just do not see that as much of a reason that Microsoft would go with a larger disc format, piracy xbox360's can be banned, the same with the xbox720 could also be banned. if there is no optical drive at all, that would even solve that Issue.

Which I think Microsoft is leaning toward keeping the same DVD9 for it's optical drive in the next xbox, it will be able to run previous xbox360 game's but also still give enough space for the majority of xbox centric game developer's for their game's
