Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Getting a 360 soon, but I have a few questions

So I plan on getting a 360 tomorrow and I have some questions.

First off, I know that the chips in the 360 have been improved and conduct less heat now, but how reliable are they? I've also been hearing about an uprise in E64 errors instead of RROD, some polls at Joystiq.com show this. Though I'm not sure if that's just with older consoles still failing or not. Do they run cooler and quieter?

Also, I don't plan on buying one of the wireless adapters if I can do the wireless ethernet trick with my laptop, so that I can save $100. It's just that I've heard that can cause things to mess up with Xbox Live. I'm not 100% sure. I have the money to spend on the adapter, but its always good to save where you can.

  1. Don't worry about, you have a three year warranty.
  2. No idea, but I don't see why it would. I'd say just try it and if it turns out to be trouble just buy an adapter. If you want to save money, look on eBay for one of the older adapters.

You should be totally fine. The new chips are extremely reliable. And even if you do get an E74 error or the RROD you still have the 3 year warranty. Honestly just jump in and enjoy your purchase

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

I've had a 360 before but I ended up selling it. Once the new spring bundle came out I couldn't resist. Getting Halo 3 ODST and Forza 3 for free is too good to pass up. I'm just hoping someone can clarify more about the wireless thing.

The newer 360 are more reliable. I guess you can do internet sharing over wireless or you can just buy a wireless ethernet bridge for cheaper than the MS 360 wireless. The other way is to use ethernet over power connector but it may not work in all scenarios.

I have heard of people using the wireless from their PC's. i dont personally know exactly how to do it as ive never bothered to try. Im sure you could look it up online.

i would wait till the REACH...anyways...yeah dont worry about it, 3 year warranties should cover that no prob...and i dont see why an ethernet to the laptop wouldnt work...but the answer is a simple google search away ^_^...good luck

congrats on the purchase man

The new 360's don't fail like the launch models.
And i would try the trick before buying a wi-fi adaptor so you could possibly save 100$.

the new chips only have 10 percent chance of rrod
and the onther question you'll be fine
