Forums - Sales Discussion - 360 Slim + Nata l...how can Sony counter?...Is GT5 enough?

I dont see much changes happening to the ps3slim atm. 32nm IMO is a while away. Apart from that there is lil to fix. RAM prices are up this year as well. A price cut for SONY doesnt seem likely. Expect Move bundles though to counter natal bundles.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

Around the Network

1. GT5 will combat Halo : Reach.

2. Move will combat Natal.

3. I don't think Sony will cut price this year. The PS3 may be profitable by the end of the year. They might just weather the storm.

I don't think either the Natal or 360 slim is going to do much. It's a little too late in the game for a redesigned 360 and most people that probably are interested in the 360 either already have one or would have bought one regardless of whether or not the slim was released.

As for Natal, MS is over hyping the hell out of something that isn't going to make much of an impact. It's just a camera that can sense movement, nothing special. And gaming with no controllers is not going to fly with most people. The eye toy didn't do much, I don't see why people think Natal will.

The lack of precision and accuracy will be a turn off for the hardcore gamers and the difficulty and awkward control will deter most casual gamers. It'll have a few breakout hits that will probably simple quirky games like Sony's ad says, "catch a red ball" and perhaps be used as a secondary feature in some games, but beyond that it won't make an impact.

Spoken like someone who knows little of gaming past.

1.  Sony never did redesigns in the past until the end of the generation.  Not in the middle like with the PS3.  This time around they were more desperate to get costs and price down so they HAD to do this.  Therefore its perfect timing for a redesigned 360 and maybe still a year early.

2.  How can you generalize to say people who are interested in the 360 already have one?  That's just flawed logic and completely baseless reasoning.  Otherwise I could say the same thing about the PS3 or the Wii and it would still sound retarded.

3.  Natal is not the Eye Toy.  You seem to know nothing about its capabilities.  It can track 48 points on a person's body in 3D space and mimic any movement of your body.  Get a hold of me when another console motion tech can say they track more than 2 points...

4.  How can you say the difficulty and awkwardness will deter casuals?  It WON"T be difficult and awkward.  In fact it will feel more natural and EASY to understand for casuals (Natal's main target audience).

As for the rest, I respect your opinion, but please make sure to mention it is your opinion next time as these are far from facts.  It is not wise to speak in absolutes when you are simply giving an opinion/guess.

I think this fall will be a marketing battle.

Microsoft will be marketing like mad:

Natal
Slim
Halo: Reach

Sony will be marketing:

Move
3D
Gran Turismo 5

In January things will begin to fall back to normal, and that's when we'll see if Move and Natal have any real impact.

I don't think Microsoft will do any price cutting this year.  I think they'll bundle Natal with all SKUs instead.

I think they'll do that plus a $50 cut.  Lord knows that after skipping a year and with the Slim they should definitely be able to afford it to still break even or only take a small loss.
