Metacritic: PS3 Is Platform Of The Year

"Sony’s PS3 has edged out Microsoft’s previously dominant Xbox 360 to finish top of Metacritic’s first annual Game Platform Power Rankings.

Review aggregator Metacritic said that the Power Rankings combine a number of factors, including the quality and quantity of titles released for each of the major platforms during 2009.

“Although Xbox 360 finished with the highest number of positively-reviewed titles (88 games receiving a Metascore of 75 or higher), and though Nintendo’s Wii had the largest total number of releases (a whopping 362, or almost one per day), the PS3 console showed the best overall game quality for the year. Among other factors, five of the 10 highest-scoring games in 2009 (for any platform) were PS3 titles, including the year’s top game: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

“The popular Wii platform had a poor year in terms of game quality, with critics liking just 28% of games released for the platform,” the site added.

A recent survey by Cowen and Company found that game review scores are one of the least important factors when it comes to making purchasing decisions, while EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich said last month that all consoles showed a rise in the number of unreviewed games from January to June 2009. During the period, 37 per cent of Wii releases weren’t reviewed."

But I thought 75 is mediocre and piss poor....

No. I'm saying why would I care about "piss poor" games that recieve "awful reviews"

We all know if the game doesn't recieve 90 or up on meta then its not worth playing.
