Forums - Sony Discussion - Did Sony consider the safety factor when designing PS Move?

From my own experience, my 5 yo son hit his little brother's left eye when playing Wii Sport baseball, and he got a serious injured. Unfortunately at that time, I didn't have wiimote jacket (I bought wii on launch date).

So I wonder what if  people hit something/someone with the PS Move bulb? Will the bulb break? Will someone get injured? From the design itself,  it seems difficult to add rubber jacket on the Move, unlike Nintendo did to wii.

And where is the wrist strap for the sub-controller? Isn't it necessary because it's wireless now?

Maybe somone who had tested the Move can explain this?

Sub controller is not motion, so no need since you wont be waving it around.

Bulb looks like its made of plastic with a led light in it. Even if you were to smash it it wont break up like a regular glass bulb. Just crack probably.

just like every major and minor engineering company they most definitely did extensive safety testing.

they probably learned from wii's mistakes from the past, plus the little bulb at the end must be plastic and soft so no worries there.

lol, the bulb is not a light bulb, you silly.
I'm sure there will be a jacket for the controller portion and a strap and all that.

It depends on the quality of the plastic for the bulb. I would hope they put a non-brittle thick enough plastic so it doesn't shatter and stab someone no matter how hard you hit them. Since it is translucent it seems like it would break, but that doesn't have to be the case.

As for the sub controller, as Hus said, there is no motion control for it, so no need for a strap.

I do agree that they should have made it so they can add soft rubber protection. Nintendo didn't even bother with it until it was painfully obvious people are incapable of controlling themselves.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I dont think they like it to be referred to as "THE BULB"

Well, some journalists call it 'THE BULB'. I hope they will make it strong enough so people don't need to replace them so often.

the bulb is made or rubber and is completely hollow you can squash it flat with your fist and it just reforms, the move wont need a crappy safety jacket cos it basically has a nerf ball on the end of it. its illuminated by leds below the ball that shine upwards into it,

In fact if you squeeze the ball hard enough you can feel a little rush of air coming out the bottom of the wand ^_^

never mind, see post above.
