Which makes them both losers. The PS3 is the biggest loser in the individual product category even if overall is a different story.

MS would bent over and take it up from everyone for their Zune to take as much a market share as PS3 does.  PS3 is out selling the 360 so that makes 360 the biggest loser even if overall its a differant story.

Obviously not, because Sony took it up the butt more than anyone else to get their market share. They've lost what? Over $100 per console in users hands? I wouldn't blame any company who is not as keen to take it up the butt as Sony are to gain market share.

You not all there are you ? think before you post.

Sony never took it from anyone to gain market share, they just crushed the comp.  They are actually barely losing anything now and are gaining share.

Its actually MS that took it up their arse hardcore launching with such defective hardware out of desperation to be first console out and to gain a lead and carve out some market share.  MS would gladly bent over, they have before with the 360.

Crushed the comp? They wiped out every trace of profits for 3 generations of hardware and you call that crushing, winning or otherwise imply they are doing good?

Apple mainly gets money from the hardware they sell and Microsoft mainly get money from the operating system they sell. Gaming is to sell operating systems for them so they still get a cut that way. Remember each copy of Windows is $50 or more in terms of revenue. That makes them a part of the gaming industry even if they do not directly interact with publishers or consumers.

But Microsoft sell Windows mostly to companies. End users either get it preinstalled (at a cost of $30-$50) or pirate it. Moreover Apple systems are much more locked in, you can't sell apps for the iPhone if you don't use the Apple dev-kits, while on the other hand you can use wathever you want on Windows.

(btw i played the last remnant and bioshock on linux, using wine...)

The idea of a physical box is dead. They sell platforms now. So the question of what particular hardware anything runs on is pretty irrelevant. The fact that 96% of all PC gaming is done on a Windows platform makes Microsoft a much bigger giant in gaming than Sony even if they don't have a direct involvement or a cut from games developed on the Windows platform. It doesn't matter whether they are involved directly or indirectly. Its still their platform and the gaming is still taking place there and in most cases its in exclusion of other platforms.

and most of the software it's pirated, they are still more games being developed for consoles and  handheld than windows platform

unless u count games like sweepmines, and flash games.

microsoft remaining markets are windows and office.

windows mobile failed, zune failed and 360 isn't first this gen either.

If you put it that way then:

  • Sony LCD = failed (2nd to Samsung)
  • Sony Walkman = failed.
  • SE = failed
  • SCE = failed.
  • PS3 = failed.
  • PSP = failed.
  • PS2 = failing.

You know, because being first is everything...

how old are you?

i see. (if you don't want a history lesson skip the wall of text below)

well Sony LCD was popular at some time, Sony Walkman is no way a failure , if you would known it was the grandaddy of Portable Players , Sony Erricson is no way a failure its still going, SCE is the biggest first party video game company and they're been (along with Nintendo , Activsion , Atari, EA ...ect)  a huge publisher of video games, PS2 is the most sold video game console , and it was the reason the industry have more "M" rated games, and that other people would not see video games as "child's toy"

as for PS3 and PSP.

PS3 had a crappy launch (so did the PS2 and PS1 btw) , but it is doing great now along with Xbox and diffenetally have more Third Party support than the Wii.

PSP is the most successful portable gaming device that isn't made by Nintendo.

How old are you?  My grandmother's computer literate, I think you're a bit behind the times...

I'm not quite sure, but I think Nintendo may be larger than SCE now.  It's hard to nail down exact employee counts for SCE given their fractured setup.

And really, iPhone/iPod Touch is the most successful gaming device not made by Nintendo.

hey don't be mean , just because someone isn't old enough doesn't mean they HAVE to know everything that happened ages ago.
