Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is anyone tired of saving the world over and over again in jrpgs?

CoughC&CGeneralsCough.. But i dont believe RTS games will ever be as main stream as say fps or sport sims.. mainly because no matter how simple it is or dumbed down it will always be to involved.. As much as i hate it RTS will always just be a niche genre craved only by it very select demographic.. Wish they would make more.. Mooooooore

I remember every James Bond being about saving the world too, Lord of the rings, transformers, Star wars... this is just to name a few

and banging the girl that would put a princess to shame

Talking about James Bond, I don't really recall one where he hasn't done it at least with one woman.

I agree! I want to save a princess in a JRPG for once.

Try playing a Dragon Quest game.  As I was going to say to the OP as all he posted was a stock list of games people complain about being 'generic'.  WHich many of them are still quite good.

Everyone who complains about 'generic' and 'cliche' themes in JRPGs needs to play Dragon Quest, as it both invented and then later broke all these themes itself.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Doesn't this go for practicly every game out there?

Not really. There's typically a main antagonist in most games, so in that respect yes, but there are tons of non-RPGs that don't involve saving the world and deal in smaller conflicts. I think that's the main issue is that it always has to be ridiculously large scale in an RPG, and the world and or universe is always in immenent danger and you must save it personally. I'll stick with popular to semi-popular games here that don't involve saving the world either at all or directly. Resident Evil, Grand Theft Auto, Gears of War, Resistance: Fall of Man, Hitman, Condemned: Criminal Origins, Dead Rising, Tomb Raider, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Left 4 Dead, Saints Row, and many, many more. There's a laundry list of games that deal in small scale conflicts that either don't end in you saving the world if there is a world saving conflict going on, or the world simply isn't in any danger at all regardless of the outcome of the game.

Tag: Became a freaking mod and a complete douche, coincidentally, at the same time.

it's fun to save the world on games.
Make you feel over powered, righteous, important and part of something really big.
If the game is good then here we go,although is refreshing to play some games that don't involve such a task,is like playing just for pure joy, without the nerve of feeling that you're screawing the entire planet because your actions on a game.

@Oxy: Well,on Gears of War and Resistance you have to stop human's annihilation, that counts for me as "saving the world" and in Tomb Raider's games you have to prevent mystical, powerful devices to end on wrong hands, counts like "saving the world" to me too, just to name a few of your examples.

I lol'd at the little comments you put beside each game.

? Most games are like this. Your on a quest to save the world or galaxy.

Save The Galaxy From The Biggest Threat In History!
Halo
Mass Effect
Every other Space themed game

Save the world
Final Fantasy
MGS
Every freaking game

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I'm just tired of JRPGs being 60+ hours.

The great thing about WRPGs is you can finish them in about 20 hours. And there is still plenty to do as an option.
