Final Fantasy XIII takes some time getting used to the gameplay and the battle system. It is more accessible to all types of gamers. Over 100 hours of gameplay to complete the game to 100% completion provides a lot of gaming.

Downside 20 hour compulsory tutorial through chapters 1 to 10 before the game picks up in its late chapters. The game has 64 side missions and game opens up after reaching chapter 11. Plenty to do after finishing the main story.

The linearity of this game makes it hard to level up in the first 10 chapters of the game.

You don't need to grind for the first 10 chapters.  You need to grind on Gran Pulse(Chapter 11) because Chapter 12/13 would be impossible to do otherwise.

I think the lack of traditional towns and the linearity for the first half of the game makes sense story-wise.

Grinding 11 is hard for me for some reason, whole game was EZ-mode, and get to here and it's like holy crap.. well, not most of the enemies, but those Behemoth Kings.. man, they heal and then they 1 shot Lightning (and she has between 2.2k and 2.4k health) - Maybe I should put Snow in my party as leader, he has over 3k... hmm

The only real way to beat them is to hit them with a pre-emptive strike, then juggle them. There is an isolated one near the exit if you were to progress through the story. Just sneak up behind him and then destroy him once staggered

2nd best FF EVER behind FF6 (for me).

I'd recommend you finish 9 :) that was my favorite FF game ever!

Though 13 is definitely in my top 3, up there with 9 and 10.

As said earlier all very linear for first 20 hours (in my case it was 25 hours), though I liked FF12 - you said it was boring, was it because of the battle system? If so, you may not like 13..

I'd say rent it to try it, but yeah you have to play 20-25 hours before the game "opens up"

First part of game was very linear and kinda boring, walk a bit, fight, get a cutscene, rinse and repeat... I understand the reason they did it was probably to tell the backstory, etc, but would have been nice to have a couple branching paths at the start so I didn't feel so confined.

Hell even mice that run those mazes for cheese get alternate paths ;)

Yeah 9 was my second favorite am waiting for it to appear on PSN but am afraid i cant stand the graphics anymore,

It's brilliant

There are no sidequests for the first 20 hours, but then it opens up, and as I understand there are plenty of post-game things to do. Not quite as much as FFX, but better than most, certainly 100 hours of entertainment

The eidelons are fairly useless, like aeons in FFX, but that didn't harm the game

The main point, is that the battle system is just fantastic. It is linear, but still very fun, and it does open up towards the end

Did we play the same game (talking about FF X here)? Aeons can crush pretty much every enemy and boss in the game except Yunalesca and Jecht (although aeons still help during the Yunalesca fight).

i only used aeons to take the one hit kill from omega gold. Whit celestial waepons you only have to hit yeth 6 times or less.

Ugh, no kidding, I have FFVII still on disc's and I bought 8 when it hit PSN, I can't take the blocky looking graphics... I'll have to hook it up so a smaller, SD screen, or buy a bigger memory card dua and play it on my PSP

I've messaged Kevin Butler via twitter to pull some strings and get us 9 on PSN, I miss Vivi :(

My characters were ludicrously overpowered though, when I fought Jecht, I took him down with 2 hits with Tidus, who had at least 4 turns before anything else....

I did use Mega-Flare a few times, but most of the time, they were fairly useless other than for 1 big attack

yes you have to hit yeth 2 times at least because he has a scripted scene where he take a sword out of his chest if you hit him again he dies, if you get speed but from ferir and max every char and also get quick hit whit each you get 16 turns before he can attack, i was able to hit omega gold around 20 times before he attacked me, i could nt get wakaś sigil but with it you can do 1.2 million in damage still you have to hit omega a lot since he has 10million HP

everyone keeps saying it get better after chapter 10 but how many chapter are there and how long do they last, the chapter could be 5 hours or 30 hours and if there are around 15 chapters that stupid, why wait until 80 % of the game to make it fun? there have to be at least 30 chapters i suppose

so far this game is boring me massively... however i am "only" 7 hours in and on chapter 4/5. hopefully it gets better like most of u say, but it's just ridiculous i have to deal with this shit until the game gets good.

not really a fan of the battle system... like someone said earlier i feel like all it is is shifting paradigms which is boring and annoying.

big fan of ff4,6,7,9,10, so maybe this game just isnt for me. SE is destroying this franchise IMO. need squaresoft back

AMEN, i just hope something drastic happens after this, like they not making a profit in this final fantasy or something like that, so that they wake up.
