Forums - Gaming Discussion - At the end, is FFXIII good enough or not?

ok so I love final fantasy and have finished 2,3,4(maxed),5,6(maxed),7,8(maxed),10(almost maxed didt get waka's sigil).... by bad luck i havent been able to finish 9, and i couldnt finish 12 because is too boring,i dont like MMO's so i passed on 11.

Now i have been waiting for 13 since it was anounced all those years ago, but i keep seen it been scored lower than FF12, and i just cant put my money and long hours on something worst than FF12. I would like someone objetive that is a classic final fantasy fan to give me a fair review of the game and clear some things that i have read in the internets, keeping in mind what i like about RPGs so here are the things i like about them.

-- When you played zelda a link to the pass did loved getting lost in that huge map? what about the world map of FF 6,7,8,9 ? loved seen a treasure in some place on FF6 and wondered how to get there,? loved finding the chocobo sage in FF7? i like that, i like getting lost, exploring and going where no one has gone or most didnt go or what ever, but i read that that never happens in FF13, is it really as bad as i imagine, is this game some kind adventure game with a RPG battle system, beacuse to me it sound even more constrained than Uncharted and that game is very linear.

-- is there a weapon (you now those extremely difficult bosses like emerald and omega) in this final fantasy? how many summons/eidolons are there? are they usefull or are they like in FF12? i like eidolons if they are usefull, you remenber eden from FF8, that's what i call an epic badass summon, oh and Odin was the best since he was random, but what use are they unless they can turn the tides in a battle( ff 12)?

-- are there secrets in this final fantasy like the golden chocobo in 7, devine offering in 6 or the celestial weapons in 10? i like been able to max out a game like few can, i played FF7 for 500 hours and got every stat to 255, yes anyone can be lvl 99 in 7 but having every stat at 255 took a lot of time since you have to tramsmutate many many mobs and then get the (power, spirit, etc)taps. Did you opened the entire sphere grid for every FF10 character? i did, but if FF 13 is as linear as is been said, when im done with it ill be like everyone else, i would have played the same game as everyone that has the game, i know it sounds wierd but i like feeling special.

-- any mini game like the chocobo races, blitz ball? cards like in FF8?

-- Does this game feel like you are in another world or does it feel like you are in an accuarium tunel where you can see the pretty fishes but cant interact with anything? Is it completely true that there are no towns?  i think i would like it if interaction is at least like mass effect 2, at least, i was hoping something like towns in ocarina of time but since there are no towns at all.

I like Final Fantasy and i havent bought a game since assasin's creed came out, just finished mass effect 1 and 2, i want a buy a new game and was wating for FF13. is buying FF13 a must for a classsic rpg / final fantasy fan? could paying mass effect 1 and 2 make me feel that FF13 is eve more boring then i reallly is( if it is boring at all)? whats whith all this low scores (the game is getting an 8 average and that's not FF like)?

Around the Network

there are many tha loved it and many that hated it i expect some lukewarm conclusion of the gaming community

it down to your preference of games.

personally I found FF13 soo boring I gave up after 2 hours but thats just me

In all fairness its an improvement on FF12 but its certainly not a turn bases RPG, well its "turn based" but with the way the camera plays ping pong with the screen and the fact u can only control on character its rteally not turned based.

this game feels more of a cross between a very bad star ocean and FF12.

But i know alot of people that love it! so watch some you tube videos and make up ur own mind :D

It's brilliant

There are no sidequests for the first 20 hours, but then it opens up, and as I understand there are plenty of post-game things to do. Not quite as much as FFX, but better than most, certainly 100 hours of entertainment

The eidelons are fairly useless, like aeons in FFX, but that didn't harm the game

The main point, is that the battle system is just fantastic. It is linear, but still very fun, and it does open up towards the end

if there are no towns how do you get sidequest? do you get something special for doing them like extra waepons and stuff?
