"With Nintendo, I'm trying to think of anything we've copied... but I can't"

Did you forget about the Snes controller? It came before these 2....

OT: Well, nothing but the thruth. 2006 2010... is all the same. IT applies perfectly =)

Companies copying each other would have no impact on whether or not I buy the product.

This topic inspired me to register and make my first post on this site!  I want to claruify that Sony was NOT the first company to use CDs or disc based medai for game consoles.... the Turbographx 16/PC Engine, Sega CD, Amiga, 3DO, and Phillips CDi are among some others that did this over a half decade prior!  Also, dual analog is not Sony's innovation either... this was done in arcades for decades prior, as well as early consoles from the 70s.  Granted, Sony has improved and defined many of these technologies... I love my Sony systems... but Nintendo takes alot more risks and has changed the gaming landscape multiple times due to their innovations.  The only thing Nintendo has not innovated AT ALL in is ONLINE... but the 360 is by far the definitive online gaming experience... and online gaming was and is primarily a standard that was brought on by PC gaming.  I think alot of you are confusing Sony's technological expertise and stregnth with innovation.  I belive something is considered "innovative" if what is being done has never been done before.  What has Sony done that wasn't, in some fashion, done before?

Actually nintendo was toying with online way back in 1995 with the Satellaview, it was for the snes and only released in japan

Sorry to be a nerd but you could argue Sega Channel was first in '94

It's the Dual-Analog he's pointing out. Sony created that, though it was a variation of the original rumble controller (N64 Controller) which was Immersion's technology.

Like you said, Nintendo put the analog.... Sony went on to put one after... and just add another one. I don't now how is that creating.

DVD made gaming bigger? Sony sold 100M PS1s and Nintendo sold 3x million N64s. There wasn't a significant increase in the number of gamers the generation after and only part of that increase would be due to anything DVD did. Nintendo increased the size of gaming, Sony just hopped on a trend at the right time.

but the Ps2 is what used dvds

DVD players also use DVDs, whats your point?

i think he means that the psone was the first to use the disc as a gaming media source and so it killed the cartridge and it revolutionized gaming...well, thats i think he means, idk though

anyways OT: yes i would say nintendo is most innovative, however, microsoft taking it to the next step with online is my favorite big change of gaming

Wait, wasn't another console before the 5th generation that used disc-type media?

Thats not true, there were CD based gaming systems out before the PS1.

Who ever posted seriously to this is a real *BLIND* fanboy. Old article LOL.

As long as it's not a direct copy...and in most instances, they aren't, regardless on how the media wants to spin it.

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

Depends on how you look at it. Nintendo brought a rumble controller to the industry. Sony brought dual-analog controls to the industry. One brought the concept, the other created a controller using the concept, but expanded on it. In fact, we still have controllers that use dual-analog (Wii controller, the original Xbox controller, 360 controller).

But one wouldn't argue with the fact that yes, nobody has innovated more than Nintendo and they haven't really copied many ideas. They borrowed the idea of dual analog just like Sony borrowed the idea of a rumble controller. Everyone has copied, borrowed, or used previous tactics at some point though. If it continues to help gaming and the industry, what's the big deal? In the end, how have any of us been hurt by an idea being copied?

I'm one of the biggest advocates for innovation. But someone copying something else, and making it better even, I see nothing wrong with.

Aslong as it is an improvement of the original product then copying is fine as it benefits games and gamers and it should really be encouraged. It´s when it is copying for the sake of copying or sales and offers no improvement that we should voice out selves not now about theese controllers.
