That's the date of the article. It's about the revelation of the Six Axis controller. Funny how it applies to a Sony controller announcement at GDC in 2010, which does show that whatever their innovations in consumer technology, in terms of controller technology in videogames, Sony have followed Nintendo's lead since the original PS pad. In all honesty though, people have followed Nintendo's lead in gaming since Nintendo entered the market. Sony just seem to have most directly imitated Nintendo on several occasions.

No it doesn't. Nintendo copied sonys motion. hate to break it to you but Sony was demoing this tech 6 years ago. Means its probably been in development for at least 8 years

Then Sony copied Sega who copied Atari who had motion controllers years earlier.

If you say so Buddy, lat I checked this Gen was still in the Mix, Don't get mad, Everybody copies and inovates from others ideas, That is the way it works, it makes for better technology, I understand Nintendo being upset, and there fans, the race is getting closer and closer, Anyway love to stay and hear everyone bitch and moooooon, but I have work to do, have fun.

Stuff like this is what turned me away from Nintendo the first time. Fifteen years ago, Fusajiro Yamauchi's schizophrenic arrogance scared me away from the house that Mario built. Of all console makers, they better not start this crap again. Nintendo is the only true gaming console company of the current generation. They almost lost it starting two gens ago so they better not start again now.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

Sony copied the GAMECUBE by finishing last this Gen.

So the wii copied the Ps2? GASP!

no, cause the PS2 wasn't last gen.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

They're right.

Sony copied:

1. The basic design of the SNES controller.
2. Then added analogue stick and rumble.
3. Achievements from Microsoft.
4. Wiimote from Nintendo.

Their innovations are as follows:

1. Making the startling leap of logic that a cd player ought to also play music/DVD drive play movies.
2. That two analogue sticks are better than one.
3. More technology is better than less technology.
4. An aggressive business model of price cuts to drive market share.
5. Something called an Eyetoy but they failed to do anything with it nor see any potential.

There's Blu Ray too, installing Linux on a console, having an open console that can use 3rd party parts (like any 2.5 hard drive can go into the PS3), Ethernet and Wifi out of the box, a console that also works as a DVR (just not in NA), Home, making a console that plays pretty much any type of media you can find (CDs, DVDs, Super audio CDs, Blu Ray, Divx files, MP4 files, MP3 files, AAC files etc etc).

Seriously to call Sony uninovative is just silly.  In the last 30 years there have been very very few companies in the consumer electronics space more innovative then Sony.  Maybe they took this one idea from Nintendo, but its one of hundreds of good ideas that have come from Sony in the last 30 years.

Obvious things. I would take that whole list and says its less significant than the analogue stick, which they copied.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

Must resist urge to troll Sony sackfans....

@ letsdance

I'm sorry, it was the NES that revived gaming in North America. It was the PlayStation that expanded it. Just like the Wii is doing now.

Nintendo is feeling threatened it seems like to me, Everybody used others ideas in this market betters it in some way, That is technology, Sony was the first to use Disc based drives in consoles, Why Nintendo wanted to keep cartrage, ounce they saw Sons success with Disc base console, Nintendos next console was Disc based, Sony was the First to put DVD player in there console, now look at how many do the same. Nintendo can say what they want, the bottom line is now You can have the best of both worlds, Killer graphics and gameplay, Bluray, Wifi, DVD, Dolby Digital, and a Motion controller in one system, Nintendo hates that because they know they will loose market share.

You're mistaken. The article is very old.

And they may not lose market share because of this, don't expect people to shell out twice as much for a similar experience.
