Forums - Sony Discussion - Price is the biggest barrier fo the Move

Yeah well that's the whole point, that for both Natal and Move (the latter moreso), the motion sensing stuff is all optional add-on, thus making the whole experience more of a hassle and more expensive, whereas with Wii it's all one integrated experience, and cheaper.

The big is " what do you need to play ?"

and we cant completely answer to this

but, yes, IMO, too many accessory to buy/own/use ==> too expensive and too complex ?

I agree with this. In fact, I've been agreeing with you an uncomfortably large amount lately, libuellule. I hope I'm not turning French.

Pricing is definitely gonna be an issue for sony when it comes to the success of Move. I was just reading thru IGNs impressions of the demos shown at GDC, and I was suprised at how many of the games require 2 wands to play. If the basic bundle only includes the PSeye, 1 wand, and 1 nunchuck for under $100, i'd have to pay an extra $40+ for a second wand. I dunno, that and IGNs impressions of the demos shown(although still in-progress) arent making me very optimistic about its chances of taking off. Before GDC I was thinking about picking it up, but im gonna just wait and see if they reveal any killer app that really sets it apart from just being a straight up wii clone, hopefully E3 will provide those answers.

I think the competition will really put on the pressure come Holiday 2010:
- if i were nintendo, i'd probably just upgrade the basic console SKU with Wii sports resort and motion +
-if i were microsoft, I'd would be start bundling every $299 elite SKU with Natal instead of cutting the price this year. One benefit of Natal is that out of the box you would already be able to support 4 players without spending the extra $150-$300 in additional controllers/accessories. I really think this is gonna play a huge role in making Natal a breakout success- its about word of mouth, and getting as many people as possible to try it out. I dont think people realize how huge this is.

Either way, sony is gonna have to give me better reasons to invest that much money in these controllers besides being able to play FPS games with IR pointer-like capabilities

We have yet to see how a multiplayer Natal Game works...Something's telling me that it will not be...easy....

This is something I keep saying as well.

Wii-motes and PSMoves will have individual response inputs because they are tactile controllers.  The Natal camera seems like it would get confused by multiple people moving and waving their arms around; it could prove problematic at distinguishing between persons.

I think Microsoft would have been wise to develop a motion controller to work along with the Natal camera...

I want to hope that Sony has learned something about pricing...
If some of their 1st party games come out on a disk, they might be bundled with an extra wand, or the nunchuck whatever, if the game requires it.

Though frankly they have already presented Move in not such a great light considering price speculations and the flimsy games they had to show.

This.

There is no way IMO Natal could be advanced enough to keep up with 4 people on screen and make it work. If it can I would be surprised if this technology was cheap enough for everyone to buy.

Im almost certain ive read that Natal would be able to support 4 players on one camera.  I just did a quick google search and I found this from last E3:

"I thought the system, as impressive as it was in letting me play kickball with virtual balls on a TV and no controllers on my body, might not be able to handle multi-player gaming.

Wrong, the project's director, Kudo Tsunoda told me. He had me look at a special display set up as part of the ball-ricocheting demo. What I saw proved how clearly Natal was easily reading both my body and his as we both stood in front of the sensors. We appeared on screen as simplified, mutli-jointed stick figure skeletons within silhouettes of our bodies. It clearly saw us as separate people. There would be no problem, he said, for the system to support a game that let us play at the same time and track our movements separately."

What's the basic kit, Grimes?

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

The problem for both natal and move for four people would be keeping all the people and extremities within view of the camera I'd imagine.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Software, move controller and PS Eye.
