Forums - Sales Discussion - The Offical NPD February 2010 Thread

Another possibility for these strange numbers is that NPD intentionally has set up the Wii for failure in the year 2010. They reported out of this world numbers in December, so that it now looks like the Wii is quickly fizzling out. All that in hope that Nintendo gets desperate and releases a Wii HD for the holidays. I heard that David Riley and Michael Pachter are close friends.

Nintendo is deliberately sabotaging sales for the month that Sony unveils their 'Move' controller to make third parties think that the 'fad' is over so they don't bother to support any of the competing interfaces. Nintendo are big sabotagers, they sabotaged GTA IV by releasing not one but two of the biggest games of all times.

Ok we get there are PS3 shortages, we have heard that for months now.

But how the hell does that make 360 get a bump? Software wise all that was out was Bioshock 2 really?

It makes you think a bit about how the numbers can be so wrong. The 360 just posted its best ever febuary, beating the Wii by 25k. It didn't even do anything but the buzz about it on here reminds me of a morgue or something! It was even up year over year by a massive 33k!

It also makes you think about march's npd. If we accept that the PS3 has the shortages people are mentioning and have mentioned then i don't see how it can possibly be anywhere close to the 360 numbers right now. If 360 just got a bump from nothing in february then i can imagine it being a bump with BC2 and FFXIII, especially with the bundles.

So fair play to MS. Their machine that had its last price cut nearly 2 years ago just posted one of it's best months.
Which i think is further proof that if/when the 360 does actually drop to that official £99 mark with Natal then the numbers will be gigantic.

Also PS3 did well. It was up nearly 100k year over year, that is awesome.

What about the price cut that the Xbox 360 Elite model got in september/oktober? Did you already forget?

Hardly a proper price cut is it. Just re-branding of it. Where i am from that actually went up in price anyway.

We are talking about an official price cut. I.e they come out and say from this day forth the 360 costs £99. meaning the stores themselves can go even lower such is how it works. If we use the £129 price that it is now you get some stores selling it now and then in deals from £99-£109. If you put that into an official price cut means you could see stores sell the 360 from £79-£99. If they are selling well right now at £129 it does not take a genius to work out they will sell even better if you take nearly 35% off that price.

Ur from the UK yes? The Elite did get a price cut £229 to £199. Your thinking of the arcade which got jacked up to £159 but do you see 1 at that price anywhere?

Sorry yes i got the 2 mixed up. The arcade is meant to be sold at £159 but normally it is about £150 like here

http://www.game.co.uk/Consoles/Xbox-360/Xbox-360-Arcade-Console/~r344887/

Which makes my point stronger. If you drop the arcade to £99 and the elite to £150 they will sell shead loads.

As others have mentioned above i would not be surprised at all to see a new sku come out with a price cut, new look and natal. If they do that for the around £129 or so again they will sell loads. The ironic thing is if they continue to sell more year over year then that puts less pressure on them to actually drop the price. If they were getting pwned by Sony they would do that at some point but that is not happening, yet.

Agreed. The ball is with Microsoft atm, more profit or more sales. With new sku could be same profit and more sales which think will become the case either E3 or Gamescom

I'd like an explanation. Right now.

The Wii didn't protect it's blind side

The only explanation I see for the Wii numbers are the shortages.
