Forums - Sony Discussion - PSN to become Like Xbox live - Paid Subscription

I think it will be for added stuff. What is already free, will stay free.

Sony just needs more money lol. So if people are willing to pay, then they will pay.

Its why MS will never make XBL free; everyone is paying for it.

I would pay if it was a small figure, £40 or whatever X-box Live costs is a ripoff, it's the price of a game. Now £5 i'd be willing to part with.

Or even better, make it a donation thing, like much 'freeware' out there. I would be happy to donate to a good service to keep it going.

Hmm, pie.

Isnt that the same as xbox live? silver membership is free!

how funny sony said they would NEVER charged for online.... well this IS charging!

LAME

no one is actually charging anything, you should read the OP again before typing in CAPS and unleashing NERD RAGE!

This type of fear mongering is how this rumor keep's persisting, taking thing's out of context. it's been this way since the PSN has been updated with more feature's, many people ,

HAVE the fear that PSN will have to charge for online play Like XBOXLIVE. when THE PC has online play for year's for free the model of online play for the playstation 3 has been modeled off of the way PC gameing networks are setup .

not the way xboxlive is set up.

the networks are not setup the same.

Every time this rumour comes up it's false. If they do ever do that I'm selling my PS3 and tell everyone I know never to buy one.

LoL... It's going to happen this year.

PS3 is selling at a loss, they need to make back the money from somewhere

you'll be able to do basic stuff on psn without paying so it will essentially be psn's version on XBL

This has been the case since the begining. This point is also pretty weak since the margin of loss is smaller than ever [many seem to think they're profiting on certain hardware in certain regions]

OT: This was mentioned ages ago. The current service isn't changing. We've still got the PS Store, Online gaming, etc. It's a Premium service option being added, not a fee being added to the current service.

if you can cross game chat..... i'll pay, i just wanna see some imporvements.

I think it's only fair that they plan to add an OPTION for people who might be interested in premium services.

So far I'm not planning to pay for it, since current online features satisfy me completly, but if they come up with some interesting movie rental plan or something similar, I might give it a go. As long as the current model is left untouched, I can't be happier.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

i could see 'premium content' being cross game voice chat.
