Forums - Sony Discussion - PSN to become Like Xbox live - Paid Subscription

selnor said:
Any PS3 fan who thought that Sony could operate PSN for free was dreaming. Sony were dreaming. Just way to many wages to pay to the hundreds of people daily involved in PSN or Xbox Live. PS3 sells at a loss, so no money made from there, means they constantly bleed money. For a service like PSN to remain around for another 4-5 years they have to have a paid subscription. M$ are ok, because they told there customersthis from day 1. Sony know they have to introduce it, they are gonna make it as painless as possible. But then $50 a year is peanuts guys. So it's no big deal.

Why do you care? Oh yeah I know...

Because Live and PSN both need each other. Both push each other. Every time PSN gets close M$ are forced to add more features. Which is great for business. Sooner or later PSN will have a charge. It's not Sony's or M$ fault that these things cost money in R&D and daily running.

If all I'm paying for is private chats or for gaming parties than no I'll stick to only paying for live. I've lived without these features on psn for so long that when it comes to social multiplat games all stick to live. If Sony had these from the beginning it might be differantly, because they didn't the entire service should remain free.

Your right I'm not a PS3 fan as such. But dont be hard on Sony. It's not a big deal. They have looked after there fans, kept their franchises coming. A small fee for an ever changing online package with huge investment is gonna benefit the customers in the long run.

I hope Sony doesn't get huge backlash for anything they do. As a business they have to.

Well Sony is making some profit off PS Home too, and now with the new avatar features.

Sony can charge monthly for new features as long as they keep the current features of PSN free.
