Forums - Sony Discussion - What does Sony think about its (new) customers?

Somebody link this thread to Malstrom. It's exactly what he needs to hear.

Also, GT is nerdy. Car nerds are nerds too. Just like jocks are sports nerds.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

Yeah, I too want Duck Tales on the VC, it has been such a long time since I played it. The music in the moon level is glorious.

My ringtone!

Too bad no other nes nerd recognized it yet...

My old one - monkey island theme - was a sucess everywhere I went.

But OT: Nice post. I can see (with a lot o markenting, obviously!) eyepet becoming a system seller. It's the only experience that's different from nintendo so far. But Sony will have to put a lot of money on this thing, and I don't see how they can do that in their situation.

I think even if the "casuals" find out about the Move, they won't bother buying it because they already have the Wii. More than likely, they won't even care about the pretty graphics.

Something else that bothered was the demo they did for Socom 4. The guy said that "not every game has to be about waggle and getting up"(something like that). People think you have to be standing up for every single Wii game out there. The way the guy was playing is the same way I play all my shooters on the Wii. Gosh I'm having a bad because of that conference. Grrr...

I don't think they are looking to take players from nintendo persay. But rather just trying to be more "all inclusive" Also the fighting game looked awesome to me. Lol.

Also who really expected amazing games to come out when it comes out? I don't. If Socom 4 uses this and a DS3, I will get this to see how well it works for a shooter compared to my Wii that I never play.

When I watched the Sports Champions video I stared at the screen and asked myself: Do they think I'm stupid? Do they really think the "expanded audience" is going to like this? Do they really think I am going to "upgrade" to a Playstation 3 because of a Wii Sports Resort clone without a soul? Just notice how they use the word "upgrade", like people who bought a Wii were silly and bought a second-class product! People outside the hardcore gaming world very well knew why they bought a Wii and not a Playstation 3, they were not dumb and fell for Nintendo's marketing campaign!

I didn't read the whole article, because I got stuck on that "without a soul" thing. What does that mean "without a soul"? And how can you tell? And why don't you, being so tolerant, give it another few months so as to not judge something that is in pre-alpha state?

Plus, why be that way about a clone of a type of game play? I mean, it's the natural thing to do with a motion controller, play tennis and hack with swords. But even if it weren't, what about all the games that fall into a category, that "copied" an initial game? All soulless apart from the first? Of course there will be games that will resemble Wii Sports. It's natural, no need to judge the "soul" level just because you're angry.

And you're angry because they said "upgrade"? Well, better tracking (people in the business say so), wireless "secondary controller", ability to put player in a game virtual world via PS EYE, better physics. It has upgrade written all over it. Which is again a natural thing, products evolve, and the competition tries to win over people with better products. Is it better? We don't know. Is it more capable? In theory yes. Can they say upgrade? Maybe they shouldn't have since it makes people angry.

The target audience is not only the new markets that the Wii conquered, the so called "casuals". Maybe the fighting game was not aimed at casuals. Since there were fighting games long before Wii Sports Boxing, it sounds more like this would be a Fight Night clone with motion controls than a Wii Sports Boxing thing. Not that is matters.

Ok, I finally read the whole post. Well, the only thing clear is that you're angry. I don't know whether Sony dismissed the new markets that the Wii conquered. If they did, then I can understand that now, when seemingly they are all cuddly and warm with the "wii casuals", you're angry, and maybe they deserve it. But hey, what can you do. Companies adapt, or die.

And this: "But Sony's motion games look at you and say: "Hey you! I know you're dumb so buy me! I've been made for silly people who don't understand what gaming is. People like you!""!
It just seams silly. What if the people that build those Wii Sports like thing really care about that stuff? Why not think about them instead of dismissing their work because the "suites" lacked vision?

You can pretty much tell there is not that much effort behind it just by looking at the types of sports they showed off. The sports were copied from Wii Sports Resort. That's quite obvious. Tennis would've been a way more obvious choice than table tennis for a sports game of this type but they still included the game that was also in Wii Sports Resort. Also that's what I mean with "without a soul". It looks more like Sports Island or Game Party to me (the whole appearance, not the art style). I take any bet Sony's developers would much rather create God of War 4 or Killzone 3 type of games.

Oh and to the people thinking I feel "insulted": I don't. I was laughing when I wrote that post because I imagined Sony talking to the "casual gamers" telling them they are worthless as consumers ("Wii owners don't buy any games. Their consoles are just dust collectors") and then, all of a sudden, doing a 180 and telling them "We want YOU. To Play our games". (Yes, Sony looks like Uncle Sam in this little daydream )

I just said "I" in that post to make clear I am part of that audience. Otherwise everyone would've gone "you don't know anything about casual gamers! How do you want to know they'd react like that?"
