Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm actually rethinking of buying a Wii now thanks to PlayStation Move

TaichungSteve said:

The likelihood of seeing big AAA games built ground-up for the Move seems remote, at least initially, as the console itself has the smallest userbase, and this will be a fragmentation of that. Although the argument could very easily be made that we haven't seen much AAA support on the Wii either, aside from Nintendo, and a couple notable exceptions.

Well there is this news - http://psinsider.e-mpire.com/index.php?categoryid=17&m_articles_articleid=1543

The Move is close enough to the Wii's design that copying games over will be alot easier. TW, NHL11 and a few more are already confirmed for both consoles.

But you're right, whether there is going to be enough market share, for the effort, by Christmas is debatable.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Especially with the time and costs for HD games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

If you really want to wait then wait for E3. That will define the prices much better and the games / experience. Personally, I don't see it as a contest at all.

Wii is simply better than Move. You'd be spending $160 (assuming $100 for 1 controller+eye+game and $60 for stand alone controller). That's only $100 less than the known bundle of Wii with WM+ WiiSports and WSResort. Then on top of that the Wii has far more exclusive games in regards to motion plus all of the Nintendo branded games.

This also is using the logic that any good game that comes out for the PS3 Move will also utilize the DS3, so you can still buy and play it. I'm considering this a given as the Move install base will be very low throughout the PS3's life. (no more than 30%)

So, my vote is wait until E3 to be sure you get what you really want, but I'd just get a Wii and keep your PS3 as is.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not making any final judgments on the product yet, these are just my initial impressions:

#1 - That bulb looks like it is begging to get smashed.

#2 - Third parties, basically the same ones who voiced support for the Wii, voicing support for PS Move means nothing. If these developers came up with hardly anything worthwhile for the Wii, why are they all of a sudden going to develop these amazing games for a system that has sold a huge number less consoles, for a peripheral that will most likely have a low to moderate attach rate?

#3 - Wii, minus Nintendo's first party, is a door stop. PS Move, right now, looks like Wii minus Nintendo's first party, except you can't use it as a door stop because the bulb would just break. And yes, I know Sony has a first party too, but it doesn't have the same kind of recognition to draw people in, and on a peripheral device at this price, I fear for the success of it in terms of attach rate to existing PS3 consoles. When Nintendo releases a first party game, it generally sells pretty huge, at least in terms of the big name IPs, Mario, Zelda, etc. Sony doesn't have a proven first party franchise that is going to sell units the way Mario would, or Zelda. Even something like God of War, a huge PS exclusive franchise, does not light the world on fire in terms of sales, and that is without the need to buy a $100 peripheral to play the game.

Anything could happen, and maybe this thing will be the greatest thing ever released, and change gaming forever, but right now the forecast seems to be calling for a monsoon of bullshit.

LOL. Oh man, so much win here. And my thoughts exactly.

@Innervate:Thinking the same thing.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

wait until natal and move shows of their completed games at E3.
patience is a virtue xD

Right now you have been distracted by the PS Move hype from GDC. But is there basis for that hype? This - http://ps3.ign.com/articles/107/1076599p1.html - says that not yet. I'm not saying thngs can't or won't improve for the Move, just that so far from what I am reading in this and other articles there's more hype than substance to the "It's motion control with HD and a stronger processor".

And it's not just whether the Move is more laggy or not - as has already been previously said, and Nintendo and Wii users have learned over several years, what matters is not the motion controls in themselves, it's all about the actual games and the motion control implementation.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Perhaps you can explain why this makes sense to me then. Why would the E3 line-up for Move or Natal affect the desire for a Wii? Is it expected that all the old great games from the Wii will be ported over? I just don't understand. If someone wants to buy a console then there must be enough games out to justify the purchase. As such, potential new games elsewhere don't really seem like a factor to me. Maybe I am missing something.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

It'll sell 5 millions without any games.

You can expect the same third party games for both Wii and PS3, since their control systems are fairly regular. Same minigames collections, same casual games, similar inputs and features.

If you already own PS3 and are thinking about buying the Wii, don't do it for the motion controls, do it for Nintendo's exclusive game lineup. In other words - If Super Mario, Zelda and Metroid are worth buying new console for > do it.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

I was not impressed at all by the playstation move things I've seen so far. The truth is the real great use I'll make of it if I ever get it is playing a COD or Killzone with motion controls on my PS3, cause since I played my first FPS on my Wii I realized there's no better way to play them (no, pc purist, I don't agree with you... With a Wiimote you can play this kind of games on your feet, and I love that).
