Why 'Arc' will fail

Forums - Sony Discussion - Why 'Arc' will fail

Arc = Similar design with the wiimote which obviously is a good thing since nobody will have to learn something new like Natal. . It would get normal consumers to buy it, being a step up from the wiimote because the ps3 is for hardcore gamers. Eventually half the Wii purchasers would want more from their console and have the same feel as the wii they will pick up a ps3. Sony is genius, instead of bringing something new focus on what we already have and improve it. Gamers from the Wii most likely will move to the ps3 than the Xbox for the convenience of not having to learn how to use natal. Natal will take experience with it before you could actually game with it, while the arc seems to feel familiar, but at the same time a whole new experience and you will be able to pickup and play instantly.

Those talking about advertising or technical capabilities of the arc are, imo, missing the point. The arc currently has no games that will convince large numbers of people to buy it, and no amount of advertising will convince people to buy hardware unless they want to play the games on it. RE5 is the only big game that Arc has announced so far, and motion ports of last gen controlled games don't really showcase the difference motion controls can make.

We know about more games for Arc than for Natal, but that doesn't mean it will fail. Sony are showing it off tomorrow, with some games presumably. Let's wait until we see that, shall we?

Sony announced their arc launch lineup a long time ago. MS announced that they will announce the natal launch lineup at E3. That isn't to say that Sony can't add extra to their launch lineup, or even announce games for after the launch period.

But I agree that this is a silly time to be discussing this, obviously if Sony announce a whole bunch of 'must have' games at GDC or E3 or whenever for the arc then everything changes

Since the company which has made some of the best games this Generation is the one creating it, i have no worries, and we could always get just dance 2 from Ubisoft

Agreed. And since that lineup was announced, the Arc was pushed back from spring to fall, so I can easily see a lot being added to it, since 3rd parties will have longer to get something good on it.

I hope you're being sarcastic to prove the point that no one can tell.  Heavy rain is a raging success for what it is.

I'm maybe arrogant, negative in 360 threads, but I take offense to being sarcastic.

a bit early man, a bit early.

and all depend what you call "fail" ... 500k first week for an non shooter exclusive newIP game ... not so bad

The Arc which Sony is still working on is getting no ads, no reviews or previews. Celebraties arent playing it yet and It's not even done. How could it not fail. It's already march, November it's months aways, what are they waiting for, even zelda is being advertised with artwork.

I competely understand you, but as I have said : tomorrow is when the fight begin.

But, I agree with you, they are currently behind Natal.

Time to Work !

It is impossible to make a valid argument due to the limited info on the device. However, if you do some diging, things look promising. The biggest thing to remember is that Sony is nearly as big a developer as EA, and Activision with all studios exclusive to the PS brand besides SOE. At any given moment they have close to 10 studios that we have no solid evedince on what they are doing. The is an extreamly high chance that many of the studios we don't know what game they are working on, are in fact making motion games. Here is a little list of what could be coming:

Highly Probables
Clap Handz - Hot Shots Golf Arc
Media Molicule - Little Big Planet 2 Arc
SCE Japan Studios - Ape Escape Arc
SCE Liverpool Studios - EyePet Arc (US out of the box, EU updated version)

Studios Without Announced Titles But Not Normally Kid Friendly
Bigbig Studios
Evelution Studios
Gurrilia Games
SCE Cambridge Stusios
SCE London Studios
Naughty Dog
Sony Bend

Plus They Have 2nd Parrty Freinds
That Game Company
Insomniac (New Studio on the East coast, godd possibilty)
Sucker Punch

Thats the stuff I can think of right now, but they have a lot more devs out side of SCEWWS thta they have very good rellations with. Additionally, many third parties already have properties that can be brought over to the PSMC with little effort since it is similar to the Wii.

I think we can easly count on 15 - 20 brand new games for Arc at launch with a good amount of current titles getting updates to support the arc. Trust Sony, they are going to do the same thing they have been doing for the last 15 years in this industry. Take other peoples ideas, and do them the way that they should have been done. That is the way Sony works. They beat other companies at their own game buy improving the tech, the software, the support, and the retail method.
