Forums - Sony Discussion - Why 'Arc' will fail

Just my take on Arc...

Sony already had a motion controller 'SixAxis', and they did Nothing with it, ya a game or two, and then some games with a motion notion here and there but that was it.

When Sony first talked about the Sixaxis, they made it seem that many, many, games would have the feature and it would take the place of rumble. Now it's like they want people to forget about it.

You don't really see Sony trying to push the 'Arc' like other companies are pushing their versions, it seems more like they are taking a 'if it works it works, if not o well' approach.

I went to allot of Game stores in my area these past couple days, and majority of the discussion were about new games just released, Natal, DS:XL, Ipad, but nobody even mentioned Arc.

PS3 never really grabbed the 'family/casual' approach with the PS3, people touted about how majority of PS3 owners are adults, just look at the games recently released, nothing really says 'family console', and to me Arc seems to like a Wii approach to gaming, but with an Adult non-casual install base.

This is just my view on Arc

It all depends on the game support.

Without knowing how the line up is for the next year, every guess is not much more than speculation.

I agree, unless Sony show a lot of support for it at E3, I don't think Arc will be a hit at all.

The idea of the Arc is to bring in NEW customers, not entice the ones they already have.

I survived the Apocalyps3

thats a very good view, i agree for the most part, but i dont think its they're fought the sixaxis failed (if you count it as failing), i mean its the devs responsibility to use it, like heavy and warhawk have

funny, because Sony will start the marketing campaign in ... 24 hours !

and believe, this time, they will push it thought the Hell, not like the crappy sixaxis.

Time to Work !

yeah it will fail. sony just doesn't put alot of money in advertising its product ever since the PS3 came out.

Part of the problem with Sixaxis was that it didn't make controls easier or more intuitive. If anything, in all but a very few instances, it actually made games more challenging to play (motorstorm comes to mind).

The other problem was that it was an "additional" feature, meaning there really wasn't any reason for developers to use it in most instances other than because it was there. Sometimes it added some fun, even if not really necessary (buttstroke in Resistance, det charges in KZ2).

We'll see.

All I have to say is let's see the games.

And unless soft support remains tight, it could end up being another Nintendo-like peripheral with limited use or another PSEye (other than Eye Pet, has anything else been released in the past year plus?).

I'm not buying another controller unless it offers backwards support with some of my favorite games, or they release it with a really impressive game or two that I feel compelled to play.
