The Wii is already behind the times and yet it still kicked their butts, and a console relying on the merits of being ahead of its time will not be able to stand up to next generation consoles made for their own times. One 900M transistor GPU which is clocked higher than the RSX completely obliterates it and therefore relieves the need for anything more than a simple quad core CPU as the CPU as much of what the Cell does directly relates to tasks which the GPU, especially a DX11.5->12 GPU can do just as well or better.

However im not talking about obliteration by a 900M transistor GPU im talking about 1.5B transistor next generation GPU and not the present stock of already PS3 oblitterating technological marvels.

I heard one of the janitors at Nintendo said the Wii is on a 50-year-cycle. And since consumers don't determine the success of a product, and they just buy what they're told to buy, my analysis puts Wii at about 3 billion consoles sold in 2046, since it will keep increasing every year while everything else ever made slows down. I did not factor success or failure or logic into this analysis however, so I might be between 1 and 99% off. I'll take my $6999 in crisp $20s and $50s please.

I can't believe that's number... in 2015 maybe... from now, nintendo is the leader by a big marge and MS doesn't let sony catch them... ps3 is the third this gen , they can close the gap with 360 in the futur (perhaps 2010 or 2011)with japan market, but 127M... it's so big!

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 is on shelves for 10 years, but I guarantee you in those later years it won't be selling nearly as well as PS2 is.

If PS3, from here on out till the end of it's "10 year plan" sold identically to the PS2, it would still not reach 127m.

let's not forgets guys you can't compare the ps3 to the ps2 seeing the ps3 launched 300 more than the ps2 and has only for a half a year been cut to a launch price. if sony can mass produce a 199 ps3, then umm yeah, that aint such a crazy prediction.

and Nintendo would be dumb not to keep the wii out. it's not like gamers care. Their market wouldn't even know if the generations changed. Shit Nintendo is the one who future proofed their console. wii can last past 10 years

now if gamers cared then yeah they would need a HD model, but that's not the case. all they need is to keep up with the wii fit and spam the hell outta Mario, and they will be sitting pretty for ages
