Forums - Website Topics - Why Ad Blocking is devastating to the sites you love

I really hate how much flash this site uses. I am always tempted to just disable it all, but that screws with a lot of things.

The main thing I've got from reading this thread is that rendo is an arrogant and ignorant tool
If this was my website I would have IP banned you for eternity

I don't run ad-blockers, I do sometimes get annoyed by the ads on here however when that happens I simply don't come back for a while. It's like in Australia, there's constant ads on radio about some clinic for erectile disfunction, I'm so sick of hearing it that every time it comes on I switch over to another station or play a CD. I'm sure my actions aren't going to make a difference, but it does to me and if others did the same then I'm sure they'd take notice.

Only once have I ever had this website try to do something malicious and it was picked up by my AV before it could do anything. It's certainly not the only website that's ever been hacked or had malicious code embedded somewhere.

I'd be all for websites blocking their content from people running ad-blockers. This isn't a charity and your actions cost real people their paychecks and maybe even jobs. Businesses aim to grow, not just stay afloat, so by increasing income it in turn allows them to improve their content and quality, sounds like a good situation to me.

Love you too buddy, except I've done nothing wrong.

If you think there's "nothing wrong" with being an arrogant tool then good for you

I understand what ioi is saying. It makes sense. So I can understand his views, but I don't think it is right to tell me what I can or cannot block. I did pay for the PC and the internet after all. :D

update your flash plug-in, and get a browser that can better handle it. IE doesn't.

also disable sigs if needed. cuts down page load.

From what I'm reading, it sounds like sigs are a problem some of the time - do the people who disable them have much less problems?  I should probably do that...

I have always had sigs disabled and have had quite a few problems

Last time i checked i can do what ever i want on my pc within US laws and regulations and until a law is passed about ads i will continue to do what i wish with my pc.  Your only option as a content provider is to A. deal with it and accept the profits you are currently raking in and ignore people like me, Or B. try to do something about it but risk losing all the people like me.  I cant believe the attitude you seem to have believing your entitled to force feed me ads without retaliation of any kind simply because your site regurgitates infromation from around the net.

Why should ioi care about losing people like you? You use up his bandwidth, which costs money, read his content, which costs money and block his ads, which generates his income. People like you are a parasite to sites like this, he should be happy to lose people like you. I would be.

And you have the nerve to call me an arrogant tool?  *clap*

Opera handles flash just fine, and I keep it up to date. It is a bad idea to try to solve a problem when you have no clue whats causing it.
