Forums - Sony Discussion - GT review of uncharted

"We want to give it a 9/10, but it's a PS3 exclusive and Bill won't be happy. 8.9 then."

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Yeah I found that quote at the end a litte odd too :D

I don't like the new reviewer on GT X_X.

Well the review is pretty much standard GT fare, so you're probably refering to the guys voice. In which case I agree, I liked the other reviewers voice better. :)

Wow ... another 8 to 10 hour game ...

I remember when it used to be pretty common that a highly hyped game would have 20 to 40 hours of single player gameplay AND a wide variety of multiplayer modes; the overall result being that videogames were far less expensive than any other form of entertainment. It seems like every PS3 and XBox 360 game gets tagged with 8 to 10 hours of single player gameplay, and if they have multiplayer they have a fraction of the number of modes and levels that previous generation games have had.

Not only his voice but how the reviewer reviews games.

How can he attacks a singleplayer game for not having Leader Boards?
While it was not a problem with Assassin's creed?

Or wait this posts (from GT) says almost what I think about GT now:

I have never made a thread about some lame review, but this is flatout bullshit.
How the fuck can you justify attacking a strong singleplayer game for not having Leader Boards?
Jesus fucking assholes, get your shit together, and start acting like gamers, instead of fanboys.
We have enough trolls on the net and in forums to keep us busy seperating bullshit and facts, we dont need websites to flame this war up and get involved.

Uncharted is 10 hours for you to complete, therefor you suggest people rent it?! Are you out of your damned mind?
What about replay value, what about the unlockables you went past so swiftly without even mentioning which there is and what they do?!
Why are you attacking PS3 games for areas which you let 360 games get away with, what?! Is the market more forgiving because 360 has sold more?
Fucking Christ, get over it, and start acting like GAMERS, who value gameplay.

And you say the AI is nothing?!
What in the world is wrong with you?
The AI is one of the best made in this generation, that forces you to move, not because they are in great numbers, individual enemies move to flank you, some come at you, some force you out with grenades.
Did you just hit a new low?!

What about the gameplay, is it fun Gametrailers, or are you too busy ramping points on Xbox Live, so you can measure your libidos against eachother.
Jesus fucking christ what is wrong with you people?
Stop attacking singleplayer games!

Do you think I am attacking you because you gave it a low score?
Hell no, I dont care about the score, I am attacking you because 9/10 things you said in the video was complete bullshit and some were lies.
How can you seriously lie to people like this and continue showing your face on Bonus Rounds and interviews?
This bullshit has gone too far.
I have always defended this site and IGN, but you Gametrailers, you are just moving to a place where no true gamer can trust your reviews anymore.

Why dont you just admit, that you have no sense in reviewing singleplayer games with strong plots?
Is it really that hard to say Halo 3, Warhawk and COD4 is exactly what you like and no game deserves to come close to them unless it has online.
Grow up Gametrailers.

@ HappySqurriel

We will get bigger movie-like games eventually, game development just takes lots of time. To make Uncharted twice as big would take almost twice the time and cost significantly more to produce. The PS3 needs games like Uncharted now, a game like God of War takes up to 3 years to design.

Luckily there are exceptions like Oblivion or fun replayable games like Super Stardust HD and Warhawk to get back into when finishing an action packed rollercoaster ride of a game.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

@ Happysquirrel:

Euhm I thought it was the same last gen?

I still remember Jax and Daxter that was pretty short 8-10 hours but Jax 2-3 were a lot longer.

Interesting point, also God of War 2 only took 2 years to complete instead of 3 while improving on the original, so much of the early development effort may be geared towards getting the game engines up to spec for this generation, with sequels they can much more focuss on adding more to the original concept and have a better understanding of the potentials.

It was more an observation than anything else, and I'm also pretty sure we won't be seeing many bigger games on the XBox 360/PS3 in the future ...

Many/Most of the longer XBox 360/PS3 games gain their length from sand-box qualities because the cost to make a crafted gameplay experience is so high; if you're spending $10 Million to $40 Million to craft 8 hours of gameplay it is unlikely that you will ever see a similar 40 hour game produced with a similar attention to detail.

Yes/No ...

The 8 hour game has existed since the Playstation/N64 but many/most of the big budget games in the previous generation had much longer single player campaigns; and many/most had many more multiplayer modes typically with more maps in each of the multiplayer modes.
