The people at EA sports must be proud of themselves, from 20 years ago.

Probably some other things you don't know.

The DS has just passed up the PS2 in LTD sales in about three years. Fishyjoe, you're only looking at one week of sales? I call cherry picking. Anyways...

Home console sales in Japan: what can each company do to sell more? Xbox360, not much. Microsoft has thrown a lot of money into the market with some results but not something that looks very successful. PS3, I think Sony is doing some very positive things now with the price drop, new model/color and dual shock controller. Nintendo looks as if it is planning on turning the Wii into a DS download station to tap into that 20 million userbase. And then there's Wii Fit.

If SMG flop generated so many gloomy threads I don't want to think what will happen after Wii fit failure. You guys are unprapered for such situation. There won't be revoluion. Wii-Fit won't deliver. Situation in Japan is clear for me -there are core gamers who buy PS3/PSP or DS and casuals who bought Wii for Wii-Sports, Wii-play and party games.

@ Tyagi

... when I read your sig I think that stupid predictions become a trademark of this site...

Wii Fit deserves to fail. Such blatantly opportunistic content. Of course if its a success it'll be interesting to see which developers also decide to release games full of false promises to take advantage of the gullible masses.

It is a shame that SMG hasn't performed that strongly, although Mario platformers traditionally have long legs so I'm sure it'll be fine in the long-run. The Japanese market is trending downwards though, reflecting economic conditions from what I've been reading and so the numbers will be interesting over the next six months.

Looks more like stagnation than contraction of the console market to me. Here's a chart of Wii sales against the PS2:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=Japan&cons2=PS2&reg2=Japan&cons3=X360&reg3=Japan&weeks=156

It's pretty much keeping pace. The video game market in Japan just seems to be saturated to the point where the only place for growth is in the handheld market. Other regions have all the growth potential, so Japan is only losing ground in a relative sense.

Absolutely. People love the idea only because Nintendo stands behind this. Guys get real. It's not a Guitar Hero.  It's not fun, it's not multiplayer. What is it? It's a scale. Gamers from US or EU should prey for a failure of this kinky stuff otherwise you will get a new crappy device every few months instead of solid games. It's not a salvation for Wii it's a curse. You have already problem with party games outselling really good titles by a wide margin.

japan's global market share will shrink each gen and prob end up around 5 percent 30 years from now.

Why are party games outselling really good titles? And since you've tried out Wii Fit what are your impressions of the skiing portion of the title?

Calling Fishy on cherry picking would only be fair if the week was hugely different from those preceeding it. In fact from memory (I should probably check =\) this week is larger than those for the last month or so, espeically with the larger PS3 sales.

It's awful. Your legs are too close, no sticks and you can't execute really tight turnings. Speed feeling doesn't exist. It's just swinginng on the scale with high risk of the injury. Not recommended.

Sure. I also gave the key to the comparison by pointing out the DS vs. PS2 sales. In Japan the PS2 sold about 25 million of 120 million PS2's worldwide which is about 20% of PS2 sales. Even looking at the last month isn't going to do more than possibly indicate the start of a trend.

Do you even know how to ski? Making things up for a joke account is fine but are you attempting to maintain any credibility at all?
