So another what if thread. Send the PS3 Slim back 5 years into time 2005 and launch it on the same day as the XBox 360 at $299. PS3 would be in the same position as the Wii is today in sales around 70 million. The Wii would of sold 50 million today instead of 70 million today. 360 sales they may not have reached 30 million sales today. PS3 would of taken sales from both 360 and Wii.

You can see from alligned launches that the PS3 is 4 or 5million sales in front of the 360 for its first 40 months of its effective life when alligning the systems from their launches. That is a fair comparison- comparing the PS3 sales with 360 sales which sold last year.

PS3 may be lucky to climb up to second place in 2 or 3 years time.

Realistically?  I think we'd have a different PS3, with a more primitive CELL/SPU design/setup, a weaker GPU (maybe even not from nVidia), no accelerometers in the controller, 256MB total RAM and a DVD drive.  And it'd have probably sold double what it has to this point, and making Sony a cool profit by now.

Also, HD-DVD would've won the format war...

lol guys i'm pretty sure he meant those "what if's" in terms of what if the ps3 would've released at the time of the 360 (w/out any problems) and what if the size was able to be that small and if the price tag only brought in a minor loss like it currently is.

unless of course i totally misunderstood because then ya, the 360 would be sharing the basement with an urn full of ps3 ashes.

then nothing would stop sony from having a 3rd dominant gen.. what stopped them this gen was the fact they fucked up with the price, and destroyed there brand name

Exactly.

My Gaming Setup

Well assuming they would have the finances to make that happen, then PS3 would almost certainly be beating the 360. But what's done is done. It's not MS's problem that Sony decided to launch their console a year later for $600.

If sony launched PS3 at the same time as the 360 for 299.99. The xbox would be screwed.
