Tomonobu Itagaki Breaks Silence and Talks About His New Game
On the heels of finding out that his former studio, Team Ninja, was working with Nintendo on a new Metroid title, the video game rockstar (in his own mind) Tomonobu Itagaki has popped up to announce he has some new plans of his own in addition to having settled his lawsuit with Tecmo.
Itagaki san is back to his old tricks and letting people know that he's out of hiding in a new interview with Japanese rag Famitsu.
The new two page interview in this week's issue of Famitsu has Itagaki sharing the name of his new company which is called Valhalla Game Studio. The new development studio is headed by fellow Tecmo alum Satoru Kanematsu and is where Tomonobu will hold the position of Chief Technical Officer.
Currently staffed by approximately 50 employees, Itagaki states that he plans on increasing the overall number of employees, but doesn't want to have a "mega-studio" overrun with hundreds of people. The shades-wearing producer feels that a game produced in two years by 50 people is much better than a game produced in one year by 100 people.
Of course, Itagaki didn't mention in his interview the details of the settlement he came to with Tecmo. He did however say, "I believe the game I'm making now will be a little bit like nothing anyone has ever seen." He went on to estimate the sales of his new game in the area of four-million. Considering his highest selling game was Dead or Alive 3 at around two-million, he must have some big plans.
