Forums - Gaming Discussion - Games you've purchase in 2010 and what you thought of them.

PS3:
Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Just got it yesterday, and I've only played the SP so far. It's pretty forgetable, but the MP (going by the demo, which I spent 20+ hours in) is awesome!

Heavy Rain - AWESOME! I love a good, well told story, and Heavy Rain has it in spades!

flOw - Different, though good.

Comet Crash - Quite good, it brings a nice twist to TD games.

Wii:
Wii Sports Resort - Basically only got it for M+. Some of the games are good for a little while, but it's not something I'll return to soon.

Metroid Prime Trilogy - Still trying to get into it, but the oldschool design of the first game is rather annoying (no checkpoints, wtf?).

Bayonetta: Fun, looked amazing but probably the most overrated game I've played in years, how this was ever a AAA I'll never know 7.5/10
Mass Effect 2: Much better than the first one in every way, best RPG I've played this generation so far. 9.5/10

I've gotten a few others but those are the new releases

How's it overrated (or what is your definition of 'overrated')?  It sold less than 500k on each platform, more like underrated because not enough people are playing it.  But i guess to ones own opinion.

OT:

Bayonetta (PS3) - The DMC creator outdid himself and made a more amazing game.  Love it and non stop action til the end 9/10

CoD:WaW (PS3) - Late to the party cause i didnt know about the Zombie mode and thats mainly all im playing it for but great for coop campaign too.  It fulfills my FPS-Zombie needs.  You're no longer required Valve.

*crosses fingers for Activision to make a full FPS-Zombie game so it can take down Valve and show how big of a mistake they made for not putting L4D on PS3 in the beginning lol.

Overrated by game critics, it's a 90 on metacritic, doesn't even come close to deserving that, in my opinion anyway

I've only bought two games this year;

MAG - I was on the fence with this, I was invited to the first ever beta, and sort of hated it, then I was invited to the last one, and not much had changed, even the complaints I had were still present, which really disappointed me, since I was really hyped for it beforehand. However, my friend kept telling me the real game was so much better and that if I didn't like it, he'd give me the £40 I paid, so I decided to go ahead and buy it.

I'm really glad that I bought that game! Although I haven't played it too much as of late, but in the first week alone I put 20 hours into the game, and that's good enough for me, although I'm not even rank 20 yet... I should maybe play it more!

White Knight Cronicles - I don't care what reviewers said, I've been hyped for this game since day one, and as soon as it released here in the UK, I went out on day one to buy it... to find out it was sold out in every shop I tried! So I waited a week and finally got it yesterday, and already I've put 12 hours into it, and I don't even think I'm too far into the game yet, although I've been playing online too, and working on my Georama, the game is just fantastic, all of the gripes people have had, don't bother me at all, not even where enemies can melee attack you from far away, doesn't bother me, since I'm a Longsword user anyways (2H).

Rating both of them out of 10, I'd give MAG an 8 or 9, whereas White Knight Chronicles would recieve a definite 10/10 for me, it's just amazing, definitely worth the £45 I paid for it, and I imagine I'll be playing the online for quite a while too! Roll on sequel! (We might even get it this time next year depending on how fast Level 5 can do this localisation...)

I bought few older games this year, but let's talk about the new ones.

MAG (PS3) - after playing the open beta few days before release I went from "meh" to "omg want!" and that month of waiting for the full release was literally killing me, first FPS on console that felt right (I'm mouse + keyboard guy, counter strike veteran), I've put around 60 hours into MAG sofar, could've been more, but I'm studying rather hard university so no time, MAG is not perfect, but it's an unique experience which might interest even non FPS players, you owe yourself to give the FULL version a try (8.5)

Mass Effect 2 (PC) - after Dragon Age I was quiete hyped for ME2, first ME had great story and settings, but crappy gameplay, ME2 improved on the gameplay and playing with imported character was an awesome experience, I've finished the game during one weekend, playing almost nonstop, while I wouldn't call it RPG, more like an action-RPG, it's one of my favourite games ever, there are few things I disliked, but they are minor (9.5)

Now I'm looking forward to play God of War 3, since I don't have much time, with sporting HUGE backlog of games (10 on Wii, 4 on PS3, 20+ on DSi, PSP is the only I can keep up with) I don't see myself buying more new games anytime soon. Heavy Rain is on my radar, but that's about it.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

White Knight Chronicles shines too bright for reviewers to be able to see its merits, yes its cliched, but thats what a starved PS3 JRPG Fan needs!

________

Next Final Fantasy XIII.....expected score -- 9.8/10!

Wii:-

New Super Mario Bros Wii -- 9.1

PS2:-

Kingdom Hearts 1 -- 9.1

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Mass Effect 2 was fantastic. Completely blows the socks off the first one in my book. Just about everything I hated about the first one, was fixed or removed this time around. The loyalty missions were exceptional. I'm eagerly awaiting the Hammerhead missions this month. IMO, this is the best game the 360 has.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

ME2 8.5/10 - I thought moments of it were pure genius and at the same time I was disappointed at how streamlined and simplified it was compared to the first one. I didn't really think the story was so great: find squad mates, do a mission for them to earn their trust, so you can try to have sex with them, fight final battle. And although the character modeling was amazing and there was some epic visuals the graphics were pretty week. For me ME, was a better game.

Heavy Rain 7/10 - Warning: don't buy this until a patch has been released that actually fixes the problems with freezing. I was really enjoying this game right up till the part it froze on me and then became unplayable. I was almost finished, then it froze, then none of the chapters would load, only a blank screen. I was on the PS3 forums yesterday and a Dev from Quantic Dream said they were aware of the problem and working hard to fix it.

MLB 10 The Show 8.5/10 - I took back Heavy Rain and exchanged it for The Show, yesterday. This is the first next gen baseball game I have bought. And it is incredibly addicting. The graphics are sharp, but not the best. But I bought it in the hopes of playing something FUN, and it is. I love making my own player, he then gets drafted to the minors, and then I'm in competition against everybody at my position to make it all the way to the majors. The player is totally upgradable too. Its kinda like a really fun rpg.

Fuck... I'm dead!

NSMBWii - Ok, but I haven't finished it. It is exactly what I thought it would be, but apparently I wasn't as excited about it as I thought I would be. (so far) 6/10

Mass Effect 2 - Probably my favorite 360 game up until now (Oblivian would be close). Just a really good mix of everything, already played through it twice and probably will again once a sizeable amount of the DLC comes out.

Bioshock 2 - A game that felt like it should be great, but after finishing it just kind of felt "meh" about it. 8/10.
