Community service is suppose to be working off your crimes!

But what happened if someone killed all your family and friends then was told they were going to another island to work in a factory and die naturally! You would be annoyed!

Especially if the island was in the warm climate of South east Asia!


Well to save more money, we don't feed or bathe them, they just get the first big meal, work for 5 days, die and then we bring along the next batch. The cycle continues until people learn that if they kill, they could die manufacturing dildos for a Chinese company in a deserted island with no food or water. I can promise a decrease in high profile crimes.... but it could lead to an increase in cannibalism inside the factory.

The family should be satisfied with the punishment and the American people should be happy with the decreae of taxes.

Against.
I agree that just sticking people in overcrowded prisons isnt very effective but i think killing people is too much.Why?
firstly,just saying that the murderers and rapists should be killed does not make sense to me.As a prison manager was saying,most murderers are people who snapped once in their life and killed someone (usually husband/wife) whereas the "lesser" criminals are often the professionals doing routine htings like theft.
second, i think that prisoners should be made to do manual labour.I dont mean communty and service "oh go and paint a wall" i mean proper hard labour builiding roads and other pieces of infastructure.
I think that capital punishment is in someways too easy.People experiance a few minutes of pain and then thats it.

^This too. Why does comitting a crime suddenly take you out of the workforce? Makes no sense, not to mention that there is a huge preponderence of data supporting the "idle hands are the devils playground" theory. I mean, we've all heard about these crazy genius breakout attempts, all these people do is sit and stew about how terrible everything is. Put a shovel in their hands for 8 - 10 hours a day and see how much scheming they get done. Work also gives people a sense of usefulness, and we want the one's that are going to get out to be used to working, not used to sitting around all day.

Personally I'm against the death penalty for a couple of reasons. The main one is because I do not believe that the state should be allowed to kill it's citizens in cold blood. There is also the fact that in all circumstances innocent people will end up being executed, which is bluntly the state murdering an innocent citizen.

Also the deterrent effect has never had any solid statistical evidence behind it.


Cost isn't the issue in England anyway. Its the space, our jails are full. Also i would argue that if someone aged 25 murdered people and was sent to jail it would cost more in terms of food healthcare etc etc than someone who was dropped off a rope. Obviously taking the internal organs which are actually useful from the waste of space.

Also, if there wasn't 100% evidence then people wouldn't be killed. They would be dumped in a jail like they are now. If i was considering commiting a criminal act and i knew that i could be putting my life at risk i wouldn't do it. If i knew that jail was the worst "punishment" then i would do it.

There is never 100% evidence, there are varying degrees of being close to it. Many people have been executed wrongfully in the United States for example which has a large series of appeals before a man can be executed

In my opinion the execution of even one person who is innocent is a grevious crime committed by the state.

So what are we to do if a group of men rape local women, and let's say there is enough trouble makers that the townsfolk can't stop them or get revenge. There has the be some form of punishment.

I'm for capital punishment.

The acceptable reasons for capital punishment IMO are:

- Murder (1st or 2nd degree)
- Rape, if its your second offense. The first offense should be about 10 years prison.
- Child molestation. Unlike rape you get death on the first offense.
