Forums - General Discussion - Do you call your metal black?

Anybody into black metal here?  Especially atmospheric and/or folky black metal (Drudkh and Wolves in the Throne Room, for example).

not me

I've been waayyy too busy lately to be able to sit down to a lot of music but I lik metal sometimes. I was listening to something the other day and I started getting into it once I realized that the song sounded just like classical music...just "heavier".

btw, Heavy metal can be "folky" like folk music? Crazy. I've never imagined that metal can sound like folk music but i'll download some if you can reccomend a few bands.

Thanks to kenobi after I got him to ban my old account (dallas) after someone hacked into it and being ok with me coming back under a slightly different username.  I appreciate our communication in the PMs.  Also I want to give a big thank you to vgchartz for being one of the cooler websites around.

Oh, and I'm still the next Michael Pachter

I like almost all kind of metal music, but there are unfortunately more bad than good bands

I don't listen to black metal too often out of matters of principle, but I get into lot's of folk and viking metal. I absolutely love Amon Amarth, and also listen to Ensiferum, Agalloch, Mithotyn, and others.

Out of all metal, I favor melodeath and power metal (especially the symphonic and progressive stuff). My favorite bands are Iced Earth, Soilwork, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Amon Amarth, and others.

Why there are so many subgenres of metal? I'm not really into black... more into heavy, progressive or speed.

I love all kinds of metal. Power, Gothic, Industrial, Symphonic. Thrash and the other types in between. Bands like Angtoria, Lost Horizon, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, and Dreadful Shadows I listen to them quite a bit

My favorite metal genre is thrash. Last year I went to Helloween, Stratovarius, Dio and Slayer concerts, next year hopefully I'll see Iron Maiden and Megadeth. I've seen Dream Theater too. :)

So you like thrash and power metal?  I assume you listen to Iced Earth?  It seems like they'd be a perfect match for you.
