lol...someone said heavy rain.

In any case...how do we define biggest?

Innovation which is most fun? Innovation which helped sell most consoles? Innovation which made a change in how games are played?

Shit...the answer to all that is motion controls.

That would be an opinion I'm afraid.

I guess, but it should be a pretty standard opinion.

Considering that online was an innovation which Sega Saturn had, and dreamcast and xbox...and not to mention PC prior to this gen, it really doesn't belong on the innovation list for this gen.

And I don't think anyone is crazy enough to argue that achievements are more fun that motion controls.

What else? DLC? Cutting down games and then selling them as DLC is not a fun innovation if you ask me.

I do

Really? wow... I mean, if you are playing a game you are playing it cause its fun right? Not cause of some meaningless score....

All I can say is that if you have non-gamers over a your place...achievements are worthless. Wii sports boxing and bowling however provide shitloads of fun.

I don't think they're more fun, but I think they're more important at the moment.

Motion controls don't drive me to play, complete, and replay games in ways I usually wouldn't.

If achevements meant things like free swag from MS or Sony...I'd be down.

But frankly, it seems like a waste of time to me. If one has only a few games to play, I see how it improves replay value, but for people that get a game every week or two...gathering achievements cuts in to the next great gaming experience.

I'm not out to convince you that you should love achievements since this is all opinion but even I can recognize that things I don't like are worthwhile or good (for instance, I despise MGS4 but recognize it's a good game).

And people that get a game every week I'm guess are in the minority.

Motion controls, pretty easily. The market has spoken, nothing else even begins to compare.

Agree with bolded...and understand what you are trying to say with the rest of your post. Fair nuff...

Motion controls have been a big factor this generation, in bringing in new people and new experiences, but it's not what takes top spot for me (it still needs more work).

My vote goes to DLC, but not just DLC as in extra content for games (which has been brilliant for some, and unfortunately abused by others), but DLC in the form of downloadable games on the consoles. These games have gotten a bigger market and much more attention by going on the consoles, and games like Critter Crunch and Flower are great games, that I have gotten at next to no cost when compared to big retail games!
And with regular DLC, you have games like Burnout Paradise (amazing support!), LittleBigPlanet (not that much DLC, but each pack has added new content and gameplay to the game and been of very high quality!), not to mention all the online games that recieve new maps and modes.

DLC for me

Read my first post in this thread.

Achievements give you a reason to play a game, giving new targets and thus extending the playtime.

Just because a game has motion controls, doesn't make it automatically better or more worthwhile.

I doubt I have more fun playing Wii Sports, than playing Mario Kart 64 or Bomberman back then. (multiplayer-wise)

So it's just a new direction of gaming, not for the worse, but also not for the better.

What do you think about Highscores ? Pretty meaningless now aren't they ?

Back in the days this was the main reason why you played a game. Just like with achievements, everything was already in the game, but playing Tetris without getting a score is boring as hell. You'd play it once, maybe twice for the awesome music, but there would be no reason to play it more than that and improve yourself.

Achievements don't turn a bad game into a good one, but they make good ones even better.

With that being said I don't care much for my overall score. I earn them for myself, because they give me the feeling that I made a good decision in buying that game.

Motion controlls are the only real difference against the previous gen's. Online gaming has been around for decades, technology is steady as allways, achievements doesn't deserve to be mentioned and DLC model is step down from datadiscs.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

I will add this, I NEVER have played a game on harder than normal level before. Due to acheivements I have now, and I have found a whole new level of well, acheivement. It does feel cool to beat a game on the harder level, and some games can play like a whole new game (if the AI is good enough), layers of fun and accomplishment added with just a 50 point acheivement.

I think Heavy Rain is the biggest innovation, new style game-play and story based gaming/adventure gaming on a console platform is the best

Heavy rain is not innovative at all.

It borrows heavily from games like Shenmue and the old PC interactive movies (FMVs)

It's just an  CG movie at best with interactive sequences which has been done before.
