Forums - Sales Discussion - How many copies does MAG need to sell to be successful

i predict 1.5 million with an active community, its a great game but its not for everyone

Yeah it is geared heavily towards a specific crowd and isnt really for the average casual gamer, its greatest strength and weakness i guess.

I dont see any sequels maybe on PS4. I am ready for some DLC a new game mode or 2 and some new maps.

Yeah me too, i heard they are making a new faction but i just want some more maps, some new dlc armor or guns would be cool, i just really want maps tho.

I'd say it's already a decent success, but the test is to see if the numbers hold up and people keep playing it. The way MAG becomes a true success is if you still find 256-player games a year from now. The unique player number needs to be a healthy number a year from now, the way COD or Halo or something like that holds onto its players.

Especially being MP only. If the community dies off, players will be more hesitant to jump into a second version.

The copies sold are probably fine for a one-platform, MP-only, new IP. Legs would be a big plus.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

For a heavily criticised new IP which is exclusive for PS3 that is only Multiplayer....?....It is already successful!

This.

I don't know why people thought MAG would be the next Modern Warfare or whatever, but I'd call it successful so far. I mean 630k sales in just 5 weeks (slightly higher after others/japan added) for a new IP that as DaColdFlash said was highly criticized. Damn I'd call that successful.

I believe MAG outsold Shadowrun already which was also an online only type of shooter. I know they have some differences but Shadowrun is the closest to the type of game MAG is. If you ask me MAG is already a success with COD and Battlefield out there as competition.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

i definitely think it will be a big success the sales will slowly but surely be there and the dlc will be another profit for the game. I wonder how many avatars have already been sold.

Can't see that happening.

It is already pretty much out of the top 50 charts in UK while already being a budget title. By the looks of the other european countries the same thing happened.
I never criticise this website but i firmly believe MAG numbers have been heavily over-tracked here and i think next thursday in the NPD we will probably see that.

If we go back to the time before its release the hype around it was huge, especially on here. I remember 2 E3's ago it was one of the main reveals and got lots of talk time saying about how innovative it was and how it was going to change the landscape of fps genre. I would not be surprised one bit to hear they spent a fortune making the game.

For an exclusive game and a new IP that is very much in the popular fps genre and a game that has received a lot of advertising. Not to mention basically the open beta where supposedly a million people downloaded it etc.. You would expect it to sell well over a million wordwide within its 1st couple weeks or so.

There is only one reason in my mind why that did not happen. Because the game fucking stinks. It is piss poor. People simply did not like the beta so did not buy the full game. People read the awful reviews and did not buy the game.
There are so many fps games that have multi-player that to give up that game and go over to MAG was always going to be a tough job, MAG would of had to have been awesome. Like MW2,Halo 3,LFD2 etc etc, loads of online shooters that are far superiour games.

Look at Bad Company 2. That has got good reviews and people enjoyed the beta = big sales. I have yet to even see the game being advertised anywhere. The same goes for Heavy Rain, a new IP that is in a genre that does not normally sell so many but it will have outsold MAG in its 1st 2 weeks.

So MAG had to sell around 2m lifetime in my view to be considered a success. It will never get those numbers, it will struggle to even get to 1m sales.

MAG is/was a failure.

Your whole post is full of shite.

It is £29.99 at game, that makes it part of the budget range. Full price is £39.99, hardly anyone is selling it for that.

The game sucks, it has sold badly and it is no longer in the charts, want me to start showing you those stats to proove what i said is not shite or do you want to cry about it?

Anytime you see that name just skip the post. It's usually just full of things he convinced himself is true and not actually true at all. Ex: Ps3 shortages. He says there aren't any because Sony never acknowledged it (Which they did) and he sees them in stock on Amazon (But no other retailer)
