UPDATE 3 - Citing unnamed "developers and studios", British site Develop say that the issue is affecting titles currently in production for the PlayStation 3, with debug consoles - used by developers to actually make games - thrown "into a rebooting cycle, due to an endlessly-looping error message".

Man guys this could be really really bad news if their losing information on games curently in production....hopefully they get a fix soon cause this could turn out awful

Woha this will hurt badly Sony if it spreads like this... PS3 breakings, games corrupted...

and that is most likely caused by that very same BIOS clock state fault.\

because there was a few PC's that did that until i updated the BIOS .

Not to say for 100% that's what it is exactly, but most likely that is the culprit.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

They can update the BIOS through a firmware update. You will not be able to download the firmware update on your PS3, but can download it from the net onto a USB and update it that way.

yupper's, now it cannot be sent by Email. but you can indeed updated  by those two mean's

an maybe a third by CD if Sony has to send one out that way.

Latest info on PlayStation Network Status

Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

as far as i can gather not all phat PS3's

it may be the PS3's in the 90nm scale chip's, and some maybe with the first run of the 64nm scale chip's on the motherboard.

it look's to be the earlyone's more so than later model's
