Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone use PlayOn for your wii?

I just bought this software, and just wanted to know if anyone else has issues with it being choppy?  Some content is worse than others, but nothing is great quality wise.  The videos all load, but I want to know if their is anything I can do other that setting the Video performance to max that can make it better.

I am using a 32 in flat panel TV only goes to 720P, but the picture I am getting isn't even regular 480i quality.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Other than the picture being choppy at times, this program has a lot of potential!

Honestly, I've never even heard of PlayOn.

It is a way to stream Hulu, Netflix, youtube, spike TV, South Park TV, ESPN, YOur own Media files from your PC to the Wii.  It works it's just a quality thing at the moment.  I would recommend it if you want netflix right now, and Hulu on the TV is awsome.  No cables just link the software up to your PC and go to the internet channel on the wii and link up playon.tv and bam.  Point and click screen to whatever you want to watch!  I just want the quality a little better is all

have you ever heard of orb or winamp remote? its the same for free!!!! also the yuality is rather good

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!

playon is awesome. I use it with my PS3 daily. However, my PS3 died last weekend and I have started using the Wii.

First, load the internet browser onto the SD card, this helps increase the amount of buffer room you have.

Second, remember that the Wii is wifi only so you need to optimize your network for sending large amounts of streaming data across over the air.

Third, make sure you are using component cables for video quality.

Finally, the Wii isnt super powerful so dont expect it to output anything above 480p. since it is streaming video; the source, if hd, should look sharp, but it will not be 720p.

All in all, i'm impressed with what playon has done with the wii. the GUI is nice and the connections work well. You get more control with the Wii also then with the PS3. Both have pros and cons.

Thank you so much about the info on moving it to my SD card.  That will help out a ton I bet!  I have component cables, and I have my wifi at peak performance!

This PlayOn seems to have good features.

PlayOn says the issue lies in the Wii Opera Browser.  It only supports up to 20 FPS, and anything above will crash the server.  They say they are trying to work with nintendo on this, but they won't give them any consideration!  Is there anyone on here that has an in at Nintendo that can have them update the flash on the Opera Browser?  Or maybe even let PlayOn have their own wii channel, which is what they say they want to do!  This would save me and a lot of people cable bill money.  The only thing that has me keeping my cable is the quality is so damn poor on the Wii's Internet Channel!

well, if you really want to stream data to your TV, you could always spec together a HD capable linux HTPC for $250-300. It would pay for itself in 7-8 months if you used it to replace cable TV.

Just a suggestion, as obviously there isn't much you can do about streaming to Wii. Bonus over a PS3 or X360 is it could use as little as 40W with some minor tweaks (fanless DC/DC converter compared to ATX supply) and would be much more flexible than either of the two gaming systems.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
