Forums - PC Discussion - Anno 1404 and Torchlight - Any good?

I can only vouch for Torchlight, which I personally find doesn't get boring as quick as others suggest. However I didn't play a dungeon crawler rpg for a long time so I had more hunger. I still play it just to get really powerful items.
The game is certainly a lootfest i can tell ya that.

Anno 1404 is a city/economy building game. There are AI competitors (there is no multiplayer .. yet - afaik the devs said they wanted to add multiplayer in an expension), but the biggest "enemy" you face are the demands of your people, which you are trying to satisfy.

Personally I love the Anno series and 1404 imo is the best entry in the franchise yet.

That expansion was released yesterday !

And I agree it's the best in the series.

Tell me about it.. i accidentaly bought the expansion first. I just read Anno and kept on clicking yes yes yes and purchase (steam). And when i were going to install the game i saw the Venice part. Doh! So as of now im a proud owner of both :D

So im holding off on Torchlight, playing Anno 1404 right now.. and at first glance i really like it. Looks and plays great so far!

Make sure to play the camaign first. It's not the main part of the game (rather a big tutorial), but it's very important nonetheless. If you don't then you probably won't be able to complete some of the harder scenarios. (I still struggle here and there to keep my citizens happy)

I played over 30 hours on this scenario and there is still a lot to do until I finally finish it.

Yeah im doing the campaign right now. My main problem right now is the multitasking with making sure that my ships get the right material to the right harbour.

Also, are there any disasters or attacks heading my way later on when im "playig for real"? I remember the alien invasion from sim city :D

As long as you play on the lowest difficulty you will only get attacked by the Corsair if you don't pay him a certain amount of money.

On medium dificulty your buildings will rot or catch fire, there will be storms which stop your productions, erupting volcanos (in the new expansion) and it's much harder to get a good relation with the other players.

haha buildings on fire were one of the most annoying things in Caesar III. the fire would spread quickly and then ZING, you're done. the fire in SimCity was just an ember compared to the fire in Caesar III.

I think I'll wait for a deal on this one (especially now that there's an expansion), I have too much games to play right now.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Ive played the game all day today and shit.. its hard! :D Im on the fifth chapter in the campaign and im trying to get some god damn noblemen but it takes forever and they dont want to live on my awesome island of awesomeness :(

Torchlight is a little boring but for the price of $5-$10 its well worth it.

Anno 1404 is good but Anno 1701 is 100x better because it has multiplayer and we have had tons of fun playing on LAN at home. 1701 has comparable graphics and plays essentially the same. I would stay away from 1404 until they add multiplayer which may never happen.

In that scenario I told you before (the screen I posted) I need to get 3500 Noblemen on ONE island before I can finish it. (Only have 2700 at the moment)

As you might know, the islands in the game are rather small, so I need to outsource everything to get more space for houses. At the moment I only have hemp and cider farms left on it, but they need to go as well. But first I need to conquer another island....
