Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony: PSN Is 'A Lot More Egalitarian' than Xbox Live

in the beginning xbl had it, now theyre almost the same, and tbh i like the community on sony better. major nelson and the other xbl personalities turn me off big time.

Um...no. PSN Feels like you're alone and nother apart of a community. Xbox Live offers a community service, not just free stuff. It's worth the money. Everytime I turn on PSN all I hear are crickets. All is download stuff and call it a night. On xbox Live I actually talk to people continuously and people are more active. The way that Xbox Live is put together is what makes it valuable and PSN is just horribly generic. The 360 also has tru skill matchmaking which I find to better overall.

"Microsoft's consumer base, on the other hand, can't download everything. So if I'm a developer, which system should I make the content for? And look at the results for the GTA [episodic] pack... candidly, that's why it's coming out on disc."
What an excellent point to make, oh wait, its not because this DLC is not on the PS3 you fucking idiot.

Let's see...XBL is $50 a year, and MORE people are using it then the FREE PSN...lol...seems like they are NOT equal.

No.

Excluding PSP numbers......still no

^This right here

As the PSN numbers also count accounts made online and used on PS forums and also since everyone has a psn account for everyday of the year....it easily has more people using it.

I realize your sarcasm...but alas, you're still wrong. I'll have to find the quote, but I've seen it from both Microsoft and Sony's camp. Guys from Sony have said that 75-80% of PS3s are connected to PSN (which is easy because it's free), and guys from Microsoft said that 50-60% of 360s are connected to XBL. Do the math.

Edit: Found the most recent articles, they're a little old....but do you think the percentages changed that much?

PSN includes the PSP yes?

80% of PS3s. Yes PSN counts PSP numbers, but the link referred to PS3 and PS3 only. In my originaly statement, I even said "excluding PSP numbers"

You do realize that the article you posted is 2 years old......80% of ps3's 2 years ago isnt really anything to brag about expecially considering that it is free and that there are multiple accounts.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

it really goes back to you get what you pay for. ps3 is close to making money and psn is their biggest selling point. eventually they will need to find other ways to make money. my guess is if they get closer to the 360 they will start charging for it so they can stay competitive and give the developers a bit of a kickback to make better games that are exclusive and make improvements. i think they have to keep it free for now til they get their game library as large and good as the 360. its all about the money in this competitive market. especially if theres a price drop for the 360. they will have no choice and back to losing a bunch and how much can someone lose before they say thats enough. just buy the live membership. save up if u have to. its not that hard. think about it. its just like what less than 5 double cheeseburgers a month. so its not that much for what is a better service imo.

You take out of a community what you put into it. If all you're hearing is crickets, it's exactly because all you do is download stuff and call it a night.

What's this 'tru skill matchmaking' you're talking about?

This is the dumbest thing iv ever heard of course more people use it xbox has a bigger userbase of course theres gonna be more people but in terms of whats offered on each online service they are pretty much equal.(aside from cross game chat i think)

I am Kong.

Strong and passionate, I tend to be misunderstood, sometimes even feared. I don't want to fight, I don't want to cause trouble, all I ask is a little love, and a little peace. If I don't get what I want, I get angry, and throw barrels and flaming oil at whatever's stopping me. What Video Game Character Are You?

As far as services goes i dont really see a difference, but due to bundle mics XBL have more "active" people. Although thats not always a good thing :O

But pure service vs service.. the difference is slim.

@S.T.A.G.E.

truskill never seems to make a difference for me

maybe just me tho

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.
