Sony owns the rights to blu ray. They aren't that stupid, they wouldn't fork it over to their rival company.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Nintendo is far too smart to release a Blu-Ray based video game system this generation.

Haha. It's funny how so many Sony fans think that's true while it obviously isn't true at all.

Sony doesn't own the rights to Blu-ray, and even if they did, they would be glad to make another company use it, what do you think the goal is to own a format? To make money off it selling it to others, ofcourse.

Yes they would. That's the whole point in setting a standard for optical media, so anyone who pays the license fees can use the format. And Sony is still not the only company behind Blu-Ray.

why do people always have this false notion that Sony actually controls blu-ray? there is a whole consortium, and sony only has some say in where everything goes. They used to limit who could produce blu-ray players just to keep them high (yes, there was essentially price rigging), but now anyone who is willing to pay the liscensing fee can use it.

Oh no! Sony uses Microsoft Windows. They must have stole it from Microsoft as they would never let a rival use their operating system!!

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

This doesn't make any sense at all. I can see no valid reason for the dominate market leader to make such a move. I don't doubt the next gen Wii will be HD and something comparible to Blu-ray (but it won't be blu-ray nor a movie format) but the whole trade-in thing is ridiculous. Especially considering the issue of transferring VC/WW games and game saves over to the new Wii.

im going to go ahead a file this under "most likely not real"

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

While I too doubt the validity of this rumor, I do have one note. Maybe the "trade in" program is for DLC, DL games, Miis, messages, and non-transferable save files. In other words, a memory transfer of some sort. That would increase my likelihood of being an early adaptor.

unlikely but maybe we will found out tomorrow?

The only impossible things off there are Q3 2010 (unless they're going to keep releasing Wii games after this thing is out, which would be rather self-defeating), and the trade-in program (which has never been done before, and how would it benefit Nintendo?)
