Forums - Sony Discussion - Do you care about 3D?

It's the next big thing that Sony is bringing out and they seem to have a lot of confidence that it'll do well. IMO I really don't care for it at all and I think it's a big waste of time. But then again I've never seen a 3D movie before so I don't know what I'm missing.

So what do you guys think, is 3D going to be worth it?

At the point where it stands at the moment,I don't think the technology is refined enough. They need to find a way to get rid of the glasses and make it look sharper.

I guess it's only another step for virtual reality :P

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

I care about 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Otherwise, no.

I'd love to try it (the stereoscopic kind, not the red/blue glasses kind), but it isn't on my list of technologies I'm willing to pay a lot for.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Yes but only when the price is right....two or three years from now when I need a new tv one that is 3d compatible is what I'll probably be looking at.

Until then however I'm content with just HD gaming XD

there is no possible way to do 3D without glasses without having a hologram projector.

i think 3D gaming is going to blow people's minds. just think how popular the films are. this is an interactive medium that is fully 3D....it could take immersion to the next level. imagine bullets flying at you and actually moving in your seat out of instinct. i can't wait. i love shooters, and so i think 3D gaming will be great for the genre.

for other types of games it might be nothing more than a cosmetic difference.

art is the excrement of culture

Right now, no, but I'm open to being convinced (if price, implementation is right).

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how well it is used in games. I have quite high hopes for how games such as Motorstorm and Wipeout will look and play in 3D. I'd love to see it used in RPGs as well but I don't know enough about the technology to know whether it will be cost prohibitive to large open world games. I think I'll give horror games a miss if they ever use 3D, I'm fairly sure 3D Dead Space would give me a heart attack!

I have a friend that went to an event in Germany (it was not GDC) where he saw Wipeout HD running on a PS3 in 3D.

He said that he looked to the big ass TV through the 3D glasses and there was a spaceship floating in front of the TV. Like, he could "touch" it.

He said the effect was way above the one you get with red-blue glasses and cross eye techniques.

Since he told me this, I am hyped to try it.

In cinemas, as a special interest category, sure.

In games, no.
