I hear people on this forum constantly talk about emotional video game moments bringing them to tears. I can honestly say that this has never happened to me, nor has it even come close, really. Well, unless you count the time Syphon Filter had me bawling my eyes out because I so badly wanted to drive to 989 studios and kill the group of people who were responsible for that game's control mechanics.

I've been touched by games and felt real empathy for a few of the characters but never once have I even thought about crying. I'm not bashing those who have, I just find it curious.

On the other hand, I can count about 20 movies that had me weeping like a 12 year old girl with a skinned knee. Dunno, maybe it has something to do with the Uncanny Valley and the digital nature of game characters... I just can't work up the same emotion for them. Well, that and good movies are usually written roughly 400,000 times better than the average game.

I think Metal Gear Solid had me crying

Metal Gear Solid 1 and Silent hill 2 period those games are my favorite i bet some people cried
for halo 3 :P

Really? MGS4? I was cheering for Snake to die at the end.

Halo 3 had a similar effect on me.

Then again, I'm the guy that wanted everyone to die in Farewell to Arms because they were so nauseatingly happy.

Well, Ive only cried when Mufasa died in the Lion King, and I was five.
I dont cry much, but I usually understand why someone would cry, just doesnt get me to the point where I do, has happened to me in KH2 when Roxas found Sora at the beggining on the game and I was like "oh, thats sad".

Out of frustration and/or hatred? Definitely.

Out of sadness? Not really.

I cried at the end of Terminator 2 when I first saw it, and I still get sad every time I see it.

Game have never evoked even a fraction of what some movies have out of me. I've felt empathy and sadness, but nothing even close to what movies have done, or books.

Well, no, never. Games from the point of view of ability to solicite emotional responses are still pretty weak next to films/books. Films in particular have the advantage of requiring minimal imaginition as they present apparently real people in emotional situations.

I can say though that Silent Hill 2 and SOTC made me feel genuinely sad and moved for the characters, and ICO made me smile broadly at the end of the credits.

But for the most part while I might feel a mild emotional response it's nothing like watching a film or reading a book.

Maybe one day. I guess looking at Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian there are creative souls trying.

With The Last Guardian in particularl if your pet 'whatever' howls horribly when hurt by arrows and the like that might be a toughie as I'm a sucker for animals and that thing looks very, very cute just from the trailers never mind after bonding with it during the game.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I've cried because a game was AWESOME and it was reaching its end. Never cried because it was sad.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I've cried during video games, movies, and stage plays.

I cry a lot.
