Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony to answer Geohot's hack by removing other OS support ?

Well it suxs that legit users have to suffer.. Shdn't sony be working on fixing their exploits than removing features altogether...even if it is from an older phat model...

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

fyi
all new games carry the most recent firmware on them, if it finds you are behind the times, it will force you to update before you can play.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Calm down people, it's just a rumor. And not a 'See this picture of what will be the PS3 Slim'-rumor, no, it's a 'I heard from a guy'-rumor. So until we know more, calm down.

I'm also glad that I don't give a shit about OtherOS.

People are still forgetting that there is nothing concrete going on with the "exploit"
even if you get more access, a 3d driver for linux will be very hard to write that's 1
and second if gameOS is encrypted and the keys can't be obtained by SW means than it's pretty useless that's 2.
and I remember at ps2dev there was a pretty big list of undocumented hypervisor function calls, what good If you can get some more without information?

GameOS has been dumped (look it up). The keys are not necessary when you are using the PS3's own decryption engine.

Anyway Sony won't remove otherOS, it's probably illegal, and if not, there'd be many lawsuits.

I was going to post this earlier but it seems that the thread no longer exists on the Yellow Dog Linux forums.

If this were indeed true though, I would be upset with Sony disabling something they promised me when they sold me my 60GB PS3.

Don't blame Sony, blame hackers. I wouldn't expect anything less from Sony. I would do the same thing.

This logic should be followed also to ban private firearms, then. Why, instead, it's followed only when it favours industries' interests?

I have no Idea what you just said. Maybe speak stupid so I can.

Quite easy: other OS mode is used for legit purpose but also for piracy? Let's remove it.

Private firearms are used for self defense, but also for killing sprees? Let's ban them.

Uhm, those are two very completely different things and can't be compared. One you have the loss of a life the other you have the loss of doing other things on a PS3. Besides this is one company for the PS3, you have many companies that make firearms and they would have to be the ones who stop. Anyways that is more of a political thing not something as trivial as other OS.

They already removed other OS in the Slims this really shouldn't be that big of a deal I think. But I guess I never use it so it doesn't bother me if it happens.

You know...to play games that release after the Firmware Update, you have to update it...yes, you too dsister...

I believe that is if you wish to play online.

Don't log into PSN and you can play no problem.

@dister44

Good thing I have a 60GB.

I this hack is the real deal I have no issues waiting for a custom firmware.

Call me cheap, call me a bastard, call me a POS but I would much rather copy my retail PS1 games to me PC and convert them to play on my PS3 rather than need to pay for them to be in digital form.

This is why I love my PSP, I was playing FFVII and FFVIII long before their PSN arrivals plus I already can play Vagrant Story, FFIX, Chrono Cross, etc...

you do know that the PS3 has PS1 BC right?

you can play all those games since launch and do not need custom firmware.

I'm glad sony is doing this if the exploit is real. missing a feature that nobody cares v.s. ruining my gaming experience because of privacy.
